FLmini on kickstarter

By browsing kickstarter, I just found this.
The project still not funded but with a starting price of $70 and 140 lumens (with XM-L2!) I don’t think this project will be funded.

At least they’re honest about their work.

The ZeroHour flashlight scam at Kicksterter really ticked some of us off.

I read through their proposal and I am sure it will be a nice flashlight, but it sounds like they are more or less re-inventing the wheel.

Their driver sounded interesting though, I am not an electronics guru at all, but it sounds like with their switching power supply they do design something new compared to the average buck driver (or is even that old news?)

more than a buck driver, it looks like a linear regulator and for that a Nangj 105C does the job for $8 max (with DrJones firmware).

Not really, what they claim is that the driver does not burn off excess voltage above what is needed for the required current (7135 based drivers like the 105C), but that the voltage is generated from a higher voltage by switching and levelling, and they claim that they manage to make it more efficient than the usual lineair regulators.

link to the project =helpful for a discussion

same link when you click on the picture I put, but yes sorry, I didn’t read all (tldr).
buck driver are more efficient than linear regulator, not only this one. That’s why they use 2 CR123a, I understand.

If efficiency was important to them and considering the price, they could have used a buck-boost driver and runtime would have been even longer, especialy if it’s between 300-400mA.

Wow, what a turd! Why use two expensive CR123s instead of a single 18650? I guess they expect everyone to fork over for primaries. But isnt this like…a surefire light from 4 years ago? (except with a woefully underdriven XM-L instead of XP-E)?
How is this new and different?
I think the fact that they limited comments to backers only tells a lot.

There was mention of expanding the light to use Li-ions and I think the maker(s) were going to test it with Li-ions.
Overall, it’s not my cup of tea but would be a good light for a non flashlight person because of it’s single level, long runtime, and I assume no heat.

Yea at least they are honest.

Most things on kickstarter are just simple products with good marketing (at least good enough to “fool” the backers). I’m not saying the light is a scam, I’m just saying, IMO, it isn’t worth $70.

scam?

Are you the cofounder of the zero hour flashlight???

hi alex

yes, i have answered you here: ZeroHour Kickstarter 3 X 18650 Flashlight USB Charger knockoff

i am currently waiting for response from the admin so i can get my account properly changed to a manufacturing account. then i will be doing a formal and proper introduction in the correct area of the forum

For goodness’ sake, if you want to defend your product, make a new topic. Don’t necro every single thread where “ZeroHour” pops up in google search results.
