flashlight

are guard dog flashlights good to have? they good as olight, fenix, pelican, nitecore, so on?

This one?

Hi dkim47.

A quick google for ‘guard dog flashlights’ is coming up with what looks like generic lights that are common here (C8, 50x, etc.) with their name printed on them.

What are your requirements for a light, & we can make some suggestions for you.

Welcome to BLF!

You're going to love it here, dkim47!

Welcome - I prefer crazy cats myself

When did dogs started carrying flashlights?

They started out as a stungun/flashlight as far as I know of them. The light was pretty bad, blue-ish and weak, never tried the stun capability…

You dont need a flashlight if you have…

Not just the name! Plus several hundret % of money.

A C8 from Convoy costs 17$ - The Guard Dog costs 80$
A SkyRay King Clone with 3 LEDs costs ~30$ - The Guard Dog costs 125$

@dkim47:
Do NOT buy any of the Stuff from Guard Dog - all seems to be heavily overpriced!

Welcome to BLF! Most look like decent lights but for the most part not as good of quality as olight, fenix and nitecore.

Looks like a fairly new brand, no reviews and not widely discussed here on the forum, however their lights are re-branded models of popular lights that are well known here, and usually bought directly from a Chinese website.

I see Optics Planet has the Guard Dog line. I’ve listed a few of their models with the model name we know them as so you can search for info on here. I also included a link to their counterpart on popular Chinese webshops for comparison.

Keep in mind that although the exterior (body) may be identical to another brand the internals may be different. With a new brand clone of a known model it’s kind of a crap shoot until someone buys one and reviews it.

Their prices on Optics Planet aren’t too bad but the prices on their website are ridiculously high.

Their Security Xcess 500 Lumen (UltraFire T80 / Crelant V6CS clone) actually seems like a good deal at Optics Planet (about $32 shipped)

I have the Blackshadow Terminator and it’s one heck of a good light, quality is on par with Olight & Nightcore IMO, not sure about the the Guard Dog version.

Much better prices here:

Some not bad but the Sky Ray clone is still too high.

I second that. After going to their website and looking at their lights, I about fell out of my chair laughing. I recognized all of their lights for the rebadged lights that they are. At least they are smarter than the guys from the “Atlanta Flashlight Factory”. They order their lights from the Chinese OEMs with their branding on it. If they order enough, they get the laser etching for free.

I’m glad that dkim47 came here first and asked questions because it would have been sad to read that he had gotten screwed by the pooch, without any lube.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but their Icon and Xcess 500 (AKA BS Terminator and T80 / V6CS) seem like normal reasonable prices on Optics Planet.

I think it can be a good thing if their US dealers stock popular models we are familiar with for a normal reasonable price like these two. Faster shipping and possibly better customer service for us than dealing with the Chinese sellers.

Looks like they are based in Florida:

Seems like they did their research here on BLF since they seemed to have chosen some of the better and more popular lights discussed on BLF.

Looks like the 1st Gen. Terminator, maybe they bought out they remaining stock of those. Not sure if it’s true but I read somewhere Blackshadow/Solarstorm was getting out of the flashlight business.

guard dog

sounds like dang gum , dog gone, dark gone

which of course is another way of saying G-D .

semi polite cussing ..

"Where the hell is my guard dog flashlight !!! "

Thanks for the people who helped with my question. I went through other sites for cheaper prices so the differences were high lol. I will look into the lights mentioned.

I’m looking for a light that has some good amount of lumens and great battery run time. Rechargeable also

can you give me specs on the c8 convoy?

Check banggood.Com

The prices on these two indeed seem to be reasonable, but the shipping isn’t free. Another problem is there is no way to know (unless someone is willing to buy one) if it’s a rebranded lights or a just look alikes with cheaper internals.

The convoy C8 is a quality ‘budget’ light.

Depending on who you buy it from, you will be able to specify the power level that the LED is driven, as well as the type & tint of the LED it’s self.

Most now come with a ~3 amp driver with multiple mode groups as standard.

Another option would be the XinTD C8 which is about as good as it gets in the c8 format, from an ‘off the shelf’ light.

Be sure to include quality cells & charger in your purchase equation, if you have not already.
