Review request for HKJ [USB Power Devices]

This thread is for review request for usb power devices. This means:

USB chargers

Power banks with both fixed or replaceable batteries.

USB meters

When posting a request, please post a link to where I can get it, i.e. a shop that ships to EU.

It will usual be a few month from I order the battery, until I can publish a review. I do often have many chargers in queue.

I did order some items from Ikea include the 3 port usb charger. Arrived

You could give this lenovo USB charger a go. Would be interesting to see how safe they are. You can find it here On order

An Anker product, such as this…
Anker amazon

Ideally vs a Portapow product, I’d love to see a quality comparison

I have already done a review of that and also of the 40W, but they are not published yet. I will probably publish the 40W Friday.

On your various threads, you should add what the thread is reviewing, whether it is batteries or the USB chargers, or whatever.

Request suggestions:

IKEA now also have a 3 port USB charger Max 3400mAh total and max 2400mAh on single port, named KOPPLA. Maybe something for future testing? The price is 79 SEK or about 9 USD (actually it´s 9.99 on the US site)

Edit: Found another one – Qualcomm Certified Tronsmart Premium Design Quick Charge 2.0 42W 3 Ports wall charger

The latest Xiaomi updated Power bank 10000mAh

Thanks for all your work! Beer

This looks to be a great portable charger from Jackery.

I am curious on about the new thin XIAOMI 5000mAh powerbank
With a cell phone type cell in it.

I suspect this kind will be much more common now that ASUS, XIAOMI & OnePlus has released similar powerbanks, all based on the cell phone type thin cells instead of the usual 18650 batteries.

And +1 on the IKEA KOPPLA, that one looks interesting, especially if it would work good to charge XIAOMI powerbanks with. For now the best & fastest known charger for the XIAOMI powerbanks i know from online sources is the Samsung 2A USB charger.

These car jumper/sub power banks are very interesting, I think they will be really popular. Good call for review.

HKJ, will you be able to test the starting power of these?

Not yet, I am looking for a new electronic load that will be able to do at least 100A at 15 volt, but I have not found one yet. 200A would be better, but they get very large when you want 3000W capability and a 100A test is probably enough to reveal the packs that are too optimistic.

Itech (Cheap (Depends on the eye), works well and my software can handle them directly) do have some, but I cannot find any dealers (Ebay or otherwise).

Supposedly 2.1A output, but divided if both outlets used.

HKJ, would you consider testing some cigarette USB outlets?

Such as, Amazon 12v USB adaptor

I do definitely not have time at the moment with 20+ usb chargers in queue.

I purchased this power bank and am curious to how it performs, especially since the smaller ENB banks have received such good reviews. I used it on a hike of the Apalachian Trail along with my Armytek Wizard pro and my Galaxy Note 3.

An all too vague request — if there is any power supply made yet that minimizes vampire drain, I’d sure like to see such things reviewed.

Here’s the news I found a few years ago about a reference design, using a supercapacitor:
http://cache.freescale.com/files/microcontrollers/doc/ref_manual/DRM130.pdf

Quote:
Watt Saver no-load technology for AC adapters prevents wasting power when no device is connected. Freescale Semiconductor … ways to stop “vampire” energy loss … that occurs when an AC adapter is plugged into an electrical outlet but isn’t charging a device. Freescale’s new Watt Saver technology automatically eliminates no-load power consumption for AC adapters, potentially providing substantial energy savings ….

A second request — a little essay on when to trash/recycle a power supply.
Specifically — when a wall wart switching power supply is audible, with a buzz/rapid clicking, I’d guess that’s a capacitor breaking down and it’s becoming junk?
What other reasons are there?

(When I give up on electronics, generally I cut off the wire and plug, crack the case, landfull the plastic parts, and recycle the electronic parts.)

I do include information about that in most of my reviews. Most usb power supplies is around 0.25 watt when unloaded, but a few are better.

The noise is not directly a signal about it being old, a new one can also be audible, but the noise pattern will probably change.

The typically old age breakdown is the capacitors loosing capacity, it can be measured, but is a difficult to detect without measuring equipment. The adapter will get hotter and it will probably increase the noise in AM radios.
