Utorch is a seperate company. Manker is very upset with them. They are quite “disgusted” by their practices. It’s just the China way, though. Manker has even “borrowed” idea and designs from other companies. Still, Utorch seems to be making very direct copies. Even releasing them at the same time or before Manker!

What is your source for this information? I know there is a post or two from member Manker that indicate “discuss” but I don’t buy it. There’s no way for a copier to reverse engineer a light and release it before the origional. Especially not over and over again.

It is my opinion that Manker/utorch is a marketing game that allows Manker to manipulate its market. It seems clear to me, but I do not have a source or any proof and so it can be considered speculation. Smile

Or Manker has a leak somewhere and designs are picked up and rushed onto the market before the source is released.

^^^ Manker told me via pm that they are ODM for GearBest, and there will be no Manker variant of the UT03. The question then is why Manker wrote “disgusting” twice regarding the UT01 and UT02. My only explanation is that they have great sense of humor…

From what I gather, the company that makes the Manker lights (has the blueprints, machines the housings, etc…) seems to be venturing off making their own version. They make slight alterations, but it’s mostly based on Mankers design.

If the UT03 were to come out before the Manker version, very few people would buy the Manker. It would be a big blow to their sales. So it might make sense to them to just cut their losses and not produce it.

Why a SMO reflector with XHP70’s and a flooder?

XHP70.2’s with a light/medium OP reflector would make more sense, wouldn’t it?

Yes, OP reflector makes more sense. That’s why this light is changing to OP.
As for 70.2, they are still new. Who knows, maybe Utorch has a huge stock of the xhp70 and want to use them up.

They better don’t do that on a GroupBuy from one of the biggest Flashlight-Forums Silly

Somewhere here I read that a donut is visible at the current state. That’s a no-go for me.

OP reflector would def help mitigate the donut hole

What are you referring to that they don’t do?

Current beamshots with the current SMO reflector do show donut holes which is why they are changing it to an OP reflector.

Keep in mind that they probably haven’t fine-tuned the height of the reflector to give the best beam pattern.

I’m referring to what you said – using the first XHP70 just because they have plenty of them in stock.

I have the JKK36 from KD – OP reflector and XHP70 – and a big donut hole.
So an OP reflector isn’t all what’s needed.

There’s a number of reasons that they may stick with the xhp70. The 70.2 may not work well with their current drivers and they may not want to redesign them. It’s also possible they are not able to purchase a huge quantity of the new 70.2 because they are scarce at the moment. Flashlight companies can be pretty weird and hard to understand their reasoning for doing something.

The reflector height is also very important. I can shim my convoy l6 to make a donut hole with a SMO reflector and xhp50.2. I can make it go away just by changing the reflector height. So my point is that the UT03 with it’s SMO reflector might work well with the xhp70 if they just change the reflector height. It’s possible they could just change the reflector shape to also get rid of the donut hole pattern. We will just have to wait and see how the next prototype version performs.

Sorry to say this but please remove me from the list, freeme. I get the feeling it will be quite some time to fill the quota. I didn’t sign up for the Q8 and BLF-GT for similar reasons – too long between committing to buy and remembering that I had.
