Some sad news

Hello all.,

Some of you may know 8steve88 of these parts. As well as by his stage name, I also know him as Steve from Redcar, my friend, who I first bumped into over on Britishblades several years ago.

With great regret I must tell you all he passed away, peacefully in his sleep, on Sunday 26th November.

I joined Britishblades (now defunct, sadly) as I wanted some advice about buying a folding knife for my work as a cop (I am now thankfully retired) and received a lot of wise words about this or that extremely expensive knife I should buy.

Anyway, I got a private message from Steve, introducing himself and pointing me in the direction of Fasttech and their range of extremely affordable and capable SanRenMu knives that they sold. Thus we embarked on a friendship which was, in the main, carried out through the medium of email. We must have exchanged a gazillion words over the years and it was in one of those conversations that he mentioned BLF and what a friendly bunch you all are. I think he said something along the lines of “You think you’re hooked on knives? Wait until you start collecting torches……!”

I scoffed at the time…… He was a wise man.

We did manage to meet up on quite a few occasions though and he was even more likeable and knowledgeable a gent in real life as he was in front of a keyboard.

So, whilst it was just for a few brief years, it was a pleasure and an honour to get to know Steve and I hope he now rests.

Paul

I am sorry to hear that.

Thanks for letting us know scrumpypaul.
RIP Steve.

It is sad to hear that. He was part of the usual crowd here at BLF. I like to read about budget knives ever so often, which has become a permanent part of BLF over the years, and I always enjoyed his posts.

Yes I remember him. I think its one of his reviews that got me into buying knifes from China. This is very sad… :frowning:

So sorry for your loss. I valued Steve's opinions very much.

We'll miss you Steve. Rest in Peace.

Sad news indeed. I enjoyed reading his contribution here and bought many budget knives myself. Rest In Peace Steve.

I'm very sorry to hear that!

Nice man, sorry to hear this sad news.

Very sad to hear the news.

We will miss you Steve/8steve88. May you Rest in Peace.

Rest in Peace, Steve.

RIP Steve

Thanks for letting us know.

:frowning: Steve was great. We pm’ed back and forth numerous times and then he sort of faded away. He sure got me sorted on those OMEGA SPRINGS and Axis Lock fitments. Thanks for the update scrumpypaul. I miss that guy. RIP Steve.

The great thing about these forums is that we can still look back on his thoughts and words and gain some insight on who he was.

Thank you scrumpypaul for letting us know. My prayers go out to him and his family.

RIP :cowboy_hat_face:

Sad news indeed. RIP Steve.

I’m very sorry to hear sad new!
RIP Steve.

My condolences, we will miss him.

This is one of the sad parts of a forum that is family, we are an extended bunch who span the globe and even as we grow, our numbers diminish and we have certainly lost some of the greats. Very sorry to hear of yet another BLF family member moving on. :frowning:

Through the insights of great minds, our lights shine on….
