Astrolux FT03 XHP50.2 Test

Hey folks i thought i would start a thread about the Astrolux FT03 modded with a XHP50.2 so you can check out the results.

I will upload beam shots on the weekend when i get access to better internet.

So my FT03 is using a 3v XHP50.2 on a 20mm MCPCB its a weird fit but it does work i managed to tuck the wires into the grooves so the reflector sits flat on the MCPCB.

My results where good i am not sure how they compare to others?

4200+ lumens on startup and settles but still drops of course 3900+ lumens after some time. I got 174kcd taken after an average of 3 attempts. You may get better candela reading than me seeing as the bigger MCPCB might have better focus.

Overall stock the light is a blast its so much fun and has more than enough power with the stock SST40 with the XHP50.2 it goes the extra mile its more than enough. Its great bought a smile to my face a light so small is so powerful and bright and still throws great. Such a laugh. The thing about this light its not really practical with the XHP50.2 running at like 15amps but its some what versatile being smallish and has an extremely usable beam pattern.
The FT03 has what the L6/S70 have but in smaller package the perfect beam pattern. I have many triples that i love but the are missing the versatility of being to able throw light to where it should be. You don’t really need so much light right in front of you this is where the FT03 comes into its own. You can really light a field up better than a 10000 lumen flooder can.

The video is me testing the light and i have beam shots in my yard at the end but the FT03 needs more space to see its true potential.

I got nearly the same results.

I reflowed the 50.2 to the stock mcpcb. 18ga spring bypasses on single springs. Stock otherwise.

Using a sofirn 21700 I got 4645 startup and 4264 30 second lumens. A good deal lower with a liitokala 26650

Got 175kcd with mine.

What Littokala cells did you try? I used the original blue 26650 Littokala cells for my test. I think my spring bypass is 20awg but i still have both springs.
I would reflow my LED but i want to keep this with the SST40 i just wanted to try the XHP50.2 in here. I might buy a second one if i have the funds.

I ordered a spare mcpcb with SST40 from Mateminco for a few dollar, shipping was 10usd though.
(Actually i ordered a whole new driver as well)

With the dedomed SST40 it throws great 340kcd and is so bright and most importantly its very competitively priced thus belongs on every BLF members to buy list.

Black liitokalas.

Yeah, I grabbed one of the mateminco branded lights to keep stock and messed with the ft03 I got first.

These are quite decent. These are 10A and are what I bundle with the Astrolux FT03 in my online store. You don’t want to have a higher drain cell with the SST40

Did you just shoot Mateminco a message on AliExpress? I really need another centering ring (or two) and hopefully they can provide them…

My favorite part is where every one calls me a liar for saying the XHP50.2 can’t do 4k lumens lol.

I will upload another beam shots only video in a few days. The beam profile on this setup is perfect even better than the L6 and S70. But i do prefer the L6/S70 because of the extra run time given on that format.

I want to buy another FT03 but i have to chose between buying a new set of pliers Channellocks made in the USA or one of these lights. Sigh!

I have a set of NWS pliers but i wanted one for electronics only so i don’t get grease every where. I found these Channellocks for a good price they seem decent? The Channellocks are also VDE rated.

The Knipex have dropped price a bit.

Why don’t you want a high drain cell? Will it damage the led in some way? I’m currently running a 35a 26650.

She’ll be right the SST40 is okay in this setup. I use the same Littokala cells as i do with the XHP50.2. Either that or my Samsung 25r.

I’m using an efest 50a continuous discharge 35a.this shouldn’t hurt the stock ft03 SST40? I love my ft03 and wouldn’t want to kill it to soon

I stick to 10A max 26650 cells for the SST40 version. Some have reported 9+ Amps on Turbo which is too high the the SST40. There’s a chance you’ll shorten it’s life

I don’t see the availability of ordering a driver on their store site on aliexpress.

Do you know what is the bin on the SST40, N4 or N5? And what is the bin of the 5700K XHP50.2 they use, J4 or K2?

Always looking for: used or damaged flashlights for repair and MODDING

Nah it will be fine! My Littokala cells are just as high drain i think. So far no one has killed a SST40 by over amperage unless it was on the test bench. A bunch of us have killed many by trying to dedome them or even slicing the domes far more dangerous.

This is a beam shot only video. I am surprised how bright the S70 is with a resistor mod.

I’ve been looking into them myself, probably from Cutter. Shame about the cold white on AE though. Planning on converting S11 to eswitch, just need to find appropriate driver….
