mo' money, 'mo fenix light problems...

I figured I should warn others so that you don't get frustrated and angry much like myself.

The problem, One day I noticed the switch in my Fenix PD31 was a little loose. No problem; I thought. I tightened it up with some tweezers only to have the entire switch housing fall out. I could not get the damn thing back in. An hour later I managed to get the threaded part that holds the switch in the tailcap stuck, inside of the tailcap. The threads in the tailcap were now mangled anyway. Well, now I have a light out of commission for something that should be super easy and I'm forced to deal with Chinese customer service.

Over twenty emails, and a few weeks later. I managed to get a replacement. It seemed good, I was happy to get the light back in service. The next day I noticed the switch was loose. I tried tightening it, and low and behold it popped out. Now it will not go back in. Same problem as before only this was a brand new tailcap and switch/switch compartment. Here I am spending 20 minutes already with no such luck. The threads just won't accept it. The tailcap threads must be bigger than the threads in the piece that holds the switch in. I'm super pissed now.

The light is about 6 months old, however I fired off an email to light junction demanding a refund. I will be happy to send this back to them and be done with it. I've had budget lights that have better switch pieces than this fenix. What a bunch of garbage. Hopefully Lightjunction will oblige and take it up with fenix themselves. I'm done. If they don't I will probably file something with the better business bureau at this point.

That PD31 cost me about 70 dollars USD.

Sounds bad and I know it's fiddly to get the ring back into the tailcap but when you tightened them I hope you went anticlockwise? Or maybe you didn't as they popped out?

Sorry to hear of your issue; it's always frustrating when one of our objects of desire doesn't function as it should. This applies equally to women and flashlights, BTW.

I have had good luck with their QC, but sometimes a bad one escapes into the wild. Do you own any other Fenix products?

While Lightjunction should step up with an exchange, you may not receive a refund. Since you are not thrilled with that particular light, is there something else in their catalog that would be acceptable? I would start negotiations there.

Good luck !

i have a collection of 10 superbly chosen lights, yet one turned out to be a lemon: the tint is horribly green and inacceptable. (no, it's not the quark haha and i wont reveal the company/model at this point sorry) i didnt care too much when i got it but *now* it really bugs me. after 2.0+ months of possession i am going to send it back to the seller, just to see what happens. i want it out of my house!!, and be done with it in one way or the other. i dont expect too much .. maybe a partial refund or coupon, maybe nothing. maybe the torch is forwarded to the manufacturer for further inspection and .. the whole issue gets lost somewhere in Ch*na :D

29.99$

For a budgie like myself, a big deal. (especially given the mini size of the torch) I guess i know that i dont have a right or guarantee to demand a WHITE TINT replacement copy .. but i only want two things:

it out of my place.

be done with it.

i can sympathize with you!!

Thanks for the support. Yeah, I turned it as you should. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. I wouldnt mind an exchange for something else, but yeah we'll see what happens. Keep in mind this is the replacement and it's still f'd. It's now 6:35 EST. I've been trying for another 45 minutes. Usually it's a pretty cut and dry process. Enough time wasted on this venture. I guess I should just throw it in a drawer and wait for a response to sort this mess out.

This is my first fenix product and most likely my last. Their threads and everything else is quality, but the tailcap and compartment is garbage.

I just had an excellent experience with Fenix....Fenix Tactical in Canada.

Maybe the US side is different, your situation sounds very dissapointing though and you spent a lot on the light.

Can you just email Fenix (nicely) again - they probably wont charge you shipping or the service/fee if its the same RMA. Mistakes happen and switches can have problems...

I can feel for you. The same thing happened to me except it wasn't a flashlight, it was a gun from a good manufacturer. I bought a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 a few years ago. I had problems with it right from the start. I sent it back to S&W and it came back and still wasn't fixed. I was mad and called S&W wanting to return the rifle. The store I bought it from said they would give me a complete refund. The guy at S&W begged me to give them another chance and promised me it would be fixed correctly. I took a chance and sent it back again. It is now one of my favorite guns.

Who knows? I only own one Fenix but it's a fine light. I know it's rare to get two lemons in a row bit it does happen.

Yeah, I don't think they're responding to emails for awhile due to their chinese new year. At any rate I will have to see what happens when I get in touch with Lightjunction.

The switch on my PD31 came apart when I tried to tighten it too. Really tested my patience trying to get those fine threads to screw back together. Long story short, they are left handed threads. So it is backwards, lefty is tighty. Hope this helps. Good Luck. Rich

When I do it left handed it tries to screw into the tailcap threads, not the threads reserved for the switch.

OK. I got it. I'm a moron. I can't believe no one ever told me that, not even fenix. Perhaps I should tear down this thread out of embarrassment. Eh, whatever.

Thanks guys

Hahaha, lol  nice one

So they don't make the pd31 anymore and now the pd32 doesn't allow you to tail-stand the light. So now I can't tail-stand my light, when before I could. Although because of that I did gain momentary...All because they're left handed threads. Sh***y. I swear I tried that from the get go, but maybe it just needed a little finesse. At any rate what a fiasco.

this is an awesome thread! problem solved!

They should put that in their manual;

"The threads for the switch are left handed, so it is like screwing on a slant brake for your ak47"

I had the same problem. The thread is the opposite to most lights.

I love this example!

Or taking the lug nuts off of your late 60's Chrysler product - driver's side ONLY !

Man, THAT messed some people up.

I learned something new. Some lights have backwards threads. Luckily none of mine do because I would have probably made the same mistake as duro.

It's like trying to answer a trick question. I wonder why Fenix would do that?

Likely for the same reason as Chrysler - to prevent loosening during operation.
