What is Enjoyable about the Lockdown to You?

During the 3 days of Very limited/No Airplane travel during 9/11 gave us a chance to see the sky free of comtrails and that is probably the only enjoyable memory for me personally of that historic tragedy. Pure blue skys.

Fast forward to where we find ourselves now.
Just now I stepped out onto the back porch to trim my fingernails as they had become claws and noticed how very calm and serene it is, hardly any cars going by and for once I can not hear the turnpike which is a mile away as the crow flies. Normally you can hear the din of tractor trailer tires.
That noise has been replaced be being able to hear the wings of black flys which are having their biggest spring hatch and the birds chipping up a storm.

The few times I venture out for food the open roads free of traffic is spooky.
Talked to a trucker that I know and he said that was the only consolation to the situation.

Today is the first Sunday of the month and for my town that is normally a big motorcycle get together, all brands and styles of bikes, Harleys to Honda 50cc scooters.
Then after the get together they all split into small packs and roam the countryside.
But not today.

Life as we know it has changed forever.
Many businesses will not come back, handshakes could go away, much more online stuff will be used in school and business.
Anyway, do what you can to make it through this mess and today make that phone call you have been putting off or just forgot about.

Thanks to all members for making this place a familiar haunt that can still exist when many other things can’t.
Later,

Keith

Our current neighborhood is close to a main road with shops and bars. Weekends you can hear the traffic and once in a while a police helicopter lol. Last night , a Saturday night, was stone quiet. I walked out side and could hear our TV through the open windows, clearly. I hope this reconnects people and re-establishes self sufficiency.

Almost no traffic in a rush hours. Travel to my office takes 30min instead of 90.

I have not yet found the silver lining……

They say every cloud has one…right?

My wife is not upset about all the guns I bought anymore .

I like experiencing history and am glad that I am seeing this unique and unprecedented world event.

It is also an interesting feeling knowing that most of America is sitting at home instead of doing all the things that humans normally do during the working, schooling, shopping, churching, night clubbing, sporting, visiting, partying, meeting, etc., hours that are the necessary and normal functions of life.

It’s a bit frightening to realize that your daily life hasn’t changed much after the pandemic hit. I still go to work and do my electronics projects at home, or work on my cars. We don’t have a complete lockdown in Norway, but schools are closed and most non-essential businesses had to either opt to home office or close. The only thing that has changed is my behavior around people in public whenever I go to the grocery store or any hardware store.

I don’t have friends where I live (moved a year ago) and I’m not that much of a social being, but I do enjoy that the world mostly does the same as I do now. Also I like that there’s less traffic and less people around in stores.

I live in a relatively sparsely populated area but I agree with OP.

I like most things, less traffic, less hurry and hustle
We are not in total lockdown.
Walking in nature is ok, as well as going to work if no possibility to do it online.
Most of small bussinesses are closed but I´m not a “shopper” anyway so not much anything has changed for me.

See nice stuff on YT:

enjoyable?
as posted above, less noise, traffic, etc.

here are some more:

  1. gasoline is $1.29 per gallon. filled up the vehicles and stocked up for our generators.
  2. fewer jets at night which ruin astrophotography, but Starlink is trying it’s best.
  3. we now have a really, really clean house for once.

No more off duty since the shut downs. Watching more YouTube than I should. Eating better food, no beer shortages to report. Very little traffic driving around town. Never liked crowds so this social distancing is great.

.
Many things I do now is branded with ” is this my last time to do this ? “, so life itself is not taken for granted anymore. Every minute has more meaning and my full attention.
.

There's a lot less cars on the road.

As a father to a young family (5 children 9 and under), it’s been relatively stressful. Trying to maintain e-learning, my wife and I both working from home. Most days have a lot of screaming and crying.

But today was a good day. The sun shined down and provided comfort. I took the plow off the mower and put the mower deck back on and did the first trim of the year. Our apple trees are budding. I smoked a meatloaf and we made homemade blueberry pie. Our youngest learned to crawl today. We got to go outside and swung on the swings and toss a football around.

In the midst of turmoil, I’ve really come to appreciate the good days.

Most enjoyable to me is working from home and having my 2 boys at home (Both in college) having a wonderful wife, Hi Speed internet and each person has their own personal computer.

only the thought that the world will have to get better, it can’t really be any worse

the black plague 700 years ago practically ushered in ‘modern society’

black death

so much is wrong
why is health care tied to jobs?
why is trump president?
why do people eat bats?

Most enjoyable is being together more as a family. I have 3 teenage kids, so it’s nice to have more time with them. Also it’s nice to be able to wake up and be working within 15 minutes rather than taking a shower and driving to work. So I’m able to sleep in an extra hour!

Not having to go to work. Finally I can sit calmly and drink the coffee I make every morning, rather than gulping it in a hurry.

That does sound like a really good day, one that should be appreciated,
but isn’t always.
