A fairly high capacity and high current 14500 (AA sized) LiIon cell.

The two cells do not match, but they are both fairly high capacity and can deliver a lot of current for a 14500 cell.

Conclusion

This cell is from a new generation that can deliver a lot of current, but the factory has not got a completely consistent production yet.

Thanks for the test, unsurprinsigly the discharges curves are nearly identical to the orange shockly 1050mAh

Just took a look at the comparator and it appears to be the same cell as the Shockli Orange

Thanks for the review, that’s a very efficient charging curve. (Short CV phase)

Thanks HKJ! These do look good. I appreciate all your work.

As I said somewhere else, same cell as the badly overrated and misnamed Shockli IMR14500 1050mAh.

Cell consistency is lacking, this means its better to sort or bin cells if series usage is required. The gradient change at the end of the discharge curve is gentle, so even the two cells tested could work 0K in series, though.

Some people will be happy to have these to power pocket rockets. :-)

Can anyone advise where to buy this cell or the shockli cell currently? Stateside preferred. I’ve been looking around and so far, I’ve only seen them on Ali for too much money. Thanks!

Thanks for another great review, HKJ!

Thanks agian HKJ for all you do for the community. :+1:

I bought a few Vapcell 14500 last week from Liionwholesale.com (located in Pennsylvania). Woops, I just realized that they are a lower continuous-discharge version, and at the moment they are sold out of the version reviewed in this thread.

Wow, I missed this review. Thanks HKJ!

The ratings of capacity are within 10% - I find this acceptable. I don't know of any other 14500 cell that's better, so to me this is the current reigning 14500 king! Capacity and performance, great to see. Finally a 14500 cell with greater capacity than the old red SANYO 800's but with much better performance.

Though I'd love to see the button tops tested as well. Sometimes they under perform compared to the flat tops, depends on the quality of the button top mount. I have a pair of these with button tops from Liion Wholesale - shame they are out of stock now. I only recently got to charging and testing them myself.

Too bad they are gonne of the market. Nowhere to find :(

That sux! Couldn't even find a listing on eBay or Ali just now,

Here are my test results:

Discharge capacity tested on a Xtar Dragon VP4 Plus:
Vapcell 1000mah gold – 993, 995 mah

The Vapcell H10 is a monster! It is both a high drain and high capacity cell, which is just incredible! It even managed to beat the Shockli and Windyfire which was the previous 14500 amp king. Hope to see more flashlights that can take advantage of the high current. Both button top and flat top version outputs the same.

The Vapcell L10 is the highest capacity 14500 in existence. Output is equal to the previous Vapcell 1000mah gold.

The former 14500 king Shockli 1000mah just lost the throne but it is still an excellent high current and high capacity cell and besides these two flashlights, you won’t see any output difference vs the Vapcell H10.

Seems like the Orbtronic uses the same cell as the Vapcell gold and that they used an extremely high quality protection circuit because the output on the X5 is about the same between the Orbtronic and Vapcell. These two cells still have their uses because in lower power regulated lights, you won’t gain any lumens by using high drain cells and the Vapcell gold and Orbtronic is still the highest capacity 14500 by a small margin in low amp modes that would give you a bit more run time.

Great job on the testing! Now, if you have noth'n else to do, please find us a source!

Vapcell said by the end of the August...

Vapcell will (allegedly) have some by the end of the month.

Probably next month! :+1:
I was talkinh with them through AE and the rep mentioned next month.

Meanwhile, it would also be nice to know if the Shockli H10 (orange) is also in the same condition! They are similar cells, not sure if from the same source.
HKJ review: Test/review of Shockli IMR14500 1050mAh (Orange) 2020

According to the shape of the top of these cells, they are made by Heter Electronics Group, which in my opinion is no surprise as they dare to venture with unusual formats (and they are making awesome LiFePO4 cells). However, they're a big manufacturer and they need some minimum volumes to feel compelled to start up the assembly line. I think this is the reason for the actual cell scarcity, the rewrapping companies who sell these cells are waiting for a new consignment to be made (yes, Vapcell and Shockli).

Wow I didn’t know these were so rare. I’m so glad I bought some while they were available otherwise it would be like the Sony VTC6A 18650, which is tested to be the best 18650 in existence but unobtainable.
