I'm really obsessed with 18650 light now and wanted to pocket carry the slimmest 18650 light I could get.
I already have the Uniquefire G6 Stainless steel which is less than 23mm in width but its just too heavy to pocket carry. Is there any alternative Aluminum G6 or anything slimmer than 23mm?
It seems that the Ultrafire X1 is a candidate but is there something better?
Don't know what yours weighs, but the shiningbeam s-mini is 89 grams with a battery in. 22.5mm dia, 115mm long. Not exactly budget, but not crazy expensive, either. I think Bryan does a blf discount.
You have 18mm of battery and some space between the battery and the inside of the tube then you need to have X amount of material to thread the tube ..and the same on the tailcap and head . I think 2100 or some variant of it is youre best solution if you need it cheap....If you go xml then you'll want a little more body to act as a heat sink .
That's only 2.5mm of wall thickness on either side. Given some slop for clearance in the battery tube, only about 2mm. As stated, you will want some mass for heat-sinking. The threads on your light will still need a couple of mm...
i recently got a S-mini and it's really nice, and very slim. worth every penny IMO. but the walls are very thin though, one of the thinnest i've seen. there's a good reason it's only driven at 1A max.
before i bought the S-mini, i was looking at this N-light from intl-outdoor. i don't know much about it except what's listed on the product page, but it does look interesting, and suitably slim.
I've searched around a lot and could not find anything much slimmer than 23mm for the tube. For less than $20 USD, I got an UltraFire V6-T60 XM-L off eBay a few months ago. Mine measured smaller than was described: 23mm x 117mm per my digital ruler. Anything much smaller would require a 14500 platform, or maybe a twisty 18650?
I highly doubt the measurements quoted on that site for the AK-12 are accurate. The battery alone is 18-18.5mm wide leaving only 1.5mm for battery play and tube wall. The light is also aluminum so unless it’s as thin as a beer can that’s not happening. Even in stainless steel it would be damned tough to make it that thin but not impossible.
Yeah, seems to be a good alternative to stainless steel but it's probably more expensive than he's looking at. He stated it will be used as a "beater" light. Still, at $33 shipped it's probably not a bad option. I've been eyeing it myself, but I think I'd rather have the 26650 version because of the simple form factor.
The S-mini from Shiningbeam is the best quality light you will find in that small of a configuration. I have the XM-L and the XP-G, and love them both.
