Just installed a KW CULPM1.TG into the L21A using Convoy’s ramping driver with a 50E and it’s a purple hue. This is only 7.25 amps, I wonder if it’s already being over driven. Simon is using an 8A driver.
It’s very similar to the tint shift on an SST40 CW.
My fault, the reflector was shorting on one of the wires. There’s still a little tint shift but that could be entirely normal.
The beam has multiple rings around the hotspot but only noticeable inside.
Okay, so a 50E achieves 7.25A and gets 1135 lumens at 30 seconds. Now if using a 40T at 8A I get the same lumens. Djozz told me that 7A should be the limit and it looks like he’s correct by the numbers I’m seeing
I’m not seeing any improvement over the 1mm version
Turns out I damaged the led at the beginning when I shorted a wire on the reflector turning purple.
New led at 7A gets 1300 lumens. Increasing to 8A only gets 13 lumen gain. I’ll be driving these with a 50E in Convoy’s ramping driver for 7A
Yes, but the SST-20 DR has a very low forward voltage which you need to use a special driver. If you use this driver it’ll burn through most of the battery voltage very quickly to run more efficiently at a lower voltage.
If it’s actually an 8A buck driver the excess voltage is not wasted. However, a true 8A buck driver will require a very large inductor and probably be quite expensive compared to most Convoy drivers so I wonder if something is lost in translation here…
