For example, let's say I'm replacing a DRY with an HID flashlight at least comparable in size to a 4D to 6D Maglite (I just mean no ridiculous proportions). What kind of wattage am I looking at to beat out the DRY? Will I still get enough usable flood? I'm a complete noob when it comes to HID flashlights.
Also, what are the differences between a multi-cell lithium-ion light in series versus an HID flashlight in regards to safety? This is mainly what piqued my interest.
I actually meant over all size in regards to the Maglite comparison. I'm curious about a healthy compromise between throw and flood. I don't think I'd need a reflector size larger than the X9. Because my dad uses this type of output in short burts (spotting critters) the HID is still a viable option, if not more so than something like the DRY. That's in terms of battery consumption anyway. Does the bulb handle short bursts well enough over time?
