I really appreciate all of you sharing your knowledge on this site. I have learned a lot in the last couple of weeks since I found this site.
I really want the Imalent DX80, but every time I pull out the credit card to buy it I re-read the DX80 discussion on here and put the card back in my wallet.
I am looking for a flood. Excluding the DX80 what is the highest lumen flood light that you would consider high quality or at least pretty darn dependable. Is it the Acebeam X80? It seems like I have seen some people question the quality of the X80.
Are there any others close to the lumens of the X80 and DX80?
In the 10 000 - 12 000 lumen flood range I would look at the Haikelite MT03 and the Astrolux MF01
The Haikelite MT09R is coming up
Martin has an upcoming light - Astrolux MF03
I have an Imalent DX 80, the light has had no issues but I did get one with a bad charger that was replaced at no charge.
If you are in no rush, I would wait for reviews of the MF03 and the MT09R. Also, Shot Show 2018 is this week and there could be lots of new lights announced
The DX80 defiantly rules them all in lumens. The thing that I don’t like about it is the proprietary battery. When it goes south, I seriously doubt there will be fresh replacement battery packs on the shelf a year or two down the road. I’d rather have the ability to manually replace individual 18650 cells.
This is true. It most likely is spot welded battery tabs. I’m going to guess having a spot welder is a requirement rather then trying to solder a bunch of cells together.
I have had all the brightest flashlights as they have come out including the olight X7, acebeam x45 and the imalent dx80. No flashlight is perfect and if the dx80 were perfect it would have Moonlight mode and perhaps a little more texture on the handle but heck that is getting nitpicky. I absolutely love the dx80 and haven’t had any issues and I have even washed it. Charger has been ok too but note that is on 240 volts. I am not scared of a bit of DIY so if I cannot get a replacement battery pack I will happily replace the batteries and solder in new ones. I cannot see this being an issue and this battery pack should last at least four or five years considering I wouldn’t do a charge cycle more than every few weeks.
Concerning the battery pack in the DX80, I will make the prediction that we will NEVER see a BIG lumen light with anything other than a battery pack. Cell carriers, no matter how high the quality, can not handle the current.
