I Need To Check Myself In For Flashlight Counseling

I read this and before I could get to the next phrase I was thinking - AA battery meeting - I love AAs, why haven't I heard about these meetings and how do I get in on this

counseling...yeah, definitely needed

LOL !

That's what I said to myself too. Then one turned to two, three, now I have 13 lights and 8 incoming from December alone.

When I read jokes welcoming new members about their wallet, they're not really joking.

I uses to buy guns this way. I justify my flashlight addiction by the fact that one of my guns with the ammo I have stored up for it costs more than all of my flashlights, batteries and chargers put together. I told my wife: "Look Honey, I'm actually saving money."

Still, I'm hooked. I tried to cut down and it has been somewhat successful but I just can't go cold turkey.

You know you're bad off when you order a new light and the last one hasn't arrived yet and it only takes less for a week to get your lights.

One time I was sitting at the computer and my wife yelled in and asked me what I was doing? I said, "I'm just sitting here looking at naked women on the computer." She says, "Yea right, I know you're looking at flashlights again." She has me pegged.

In the cycling world (my first & main addiction) we call new equipment ‘bike porn’. I guess here it’s light porn?

My problem is I like the pain, but we won't get into that lol

What's crazy is I have only been doing this for about 6 months. HELP!

LOL!!!

+1, that is deserving of a sig quote.

Dibs!

DUDE, that must have been some good shopping! Make sure you list what you got in the other thread there...

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there! I guess I still have hope, my addiction comes and goes, maybe I should abandon ship while I still have a chance.

That deserves to be quoted one more time . . . absolutely awesome.

Foy

Well I will list them here for you.

Dereelight DBS V3 XR-E R2 3SM apsheric with xtender 18650 tube

Fenix TK35

Sunwayman V60C

Mag-Lite XP-E

Citipower XM-L(looks the same as a Ultrafire C8)

8 Trustfire flames 18650 protected 2400mah batteries

LOL! I told it to my wife and she had a strange look at me. The look was like: I don't find it hard to believe at all.

Well that damn rikr just bought 5 more lights. And I mean good ones. Damn you Rick. Damn you! LOL!

I posted the same thing a few weeks ago.

Story :My paypal said i was hitting a limit which was set by the local authorities and i need to send in my identity card/photo ID and/or credit card statement, utility bill whatever that shows a local address, as required by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. When i verified, a guy from Hong Kong (IDD call +86 xxxx number....WTF so good a service?) called to thank me and inform that i am returned to regular standing.

When you add up everything it is the bomb! I don't mind if i spent 5k on telescopes or hifi or cameras or if it's a lady's hobby equivalent it would be Chanel probably, but we are talking about flashlights and also budgetlights!

After that incident and "waking up", i just purchased the XTAR S1 (not that expensive really, it was discounted as it's a review copy) and TR-J12 5 x XM-L. IF you just stick to XM-L stars/batteries, it should be pretty manageable. Aim to mod some of your lights. I purchased 4 x U2 for 34 bucks i think, 1 for the Crelant 7G5, 3 for the DRY....so i will have a DRY U2 XM-L. So that'll be a new light, and i will do more measurements and tests and beamshots probably? That takes up time, and that is good to divert attention.

Welcome to the club bro!

PS. There is a scientific name for this....some buying disorder? Hmm....

Compulsive buying disorder

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Compulsive buying disorder (CBD) is characterized by an obsession with shopping and buying behavior that causes adverse consequences. Most persons with CBD meet the criteria for an axis II disorder.

CBD is found in 5.8% of the United States population, approximately 80% of those affected are female.

[edit] Characteristics

CBD is frequently comorbid with mood, anxiety, substance abuse and eating disorders. Onset of CBD occurs in the late teens and early twenties and is generally chronic. CBD is similar to, but distinguished from OCD hoarding and mania. Compulsive buying is not limited to people who spend beyond their means, it also includes people who spend an inordinate amount of time shopping or who chronically think about buying things but never purchase them. Promising treatments for CBD include medication such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and support groups such as Debtors Anonymous.[1][2][3][4]

[edit] Evolutionary psychology

Evolutionary psychology has noted that 'compulsive buying seems to occur globally' and that 'the majority of sufferers are women', as well as that there are 'commonalities and differences between compulsive buying and other forms of compulsive consumption'.[5] Building on the way 'compulsive buying is a mood-enhancing mechanism', the fact that 'most purchases made by women in a compusive-buying episode seem to be linked to appearance-enhancing products, thus suggests that the compulsive "loop" is related to social risks associated with looking unattractive'.[6]

[edit] Identity seeking

In terms of social psychology, 'excessive, uncontrolled buying of consumer goods can be understood as a form of identity seeking...an extreme form of identity seeking through material goods that lies on a continuum with everyday psychologically motivated buying'.[7] Against the background of 'the transformations of consumer culture over the last few decades, this model focuses on endorsement of materialistic values and identity deficits as vulnerability factors for compulsive buying'.[8]

In the globalized context of a consumerist system that has 'specialised in generating and then granting the wishes of human beings and thereby ruling the world' - where we are all encouraged to 'shop till we drop';[9] to 'seek solace in material possessions'[10] - CB inevitably poses the question, 'Minority pathology or Mass problem?'.[8] When 'all across the economically liberal world, the banks treated financial irresponsibility as a valuable commodity, cheap credit was everywhere',[11] and it was a point of social pride to be able to say 'my credit card is so far into the red it's turning purple'[12] - when 'consumers don't buy products so much as narratives...to self-identify as'[13] - such 'identity seeking through consumption combines with a consumerist culture infrastructure...[as] an important dimension of compulsive buying'.[14]

[edit] Online

The possibility has also been raised that 'virtual compulsive buying could be a future trend that effects young consumers of both genders'.[14]

When I read a post about a awesome light and see the Beamshots I can't stop thinking about it so I have to get it and it just don't seem right to order just one light. Yesterday I ordered actually 6 lights...

1. Sunwayman V60C

2. Sunwayman T20CS

3. TK35

4. TK21

5. TE-2

6. TE-4

The TE-2 and the TE-4 is the first lights by Pro-Tactical Shop.

Sheesh rikr, i shouldn't have replied and asked you to go check out that 130k cd XM-L light for under 200 bucks.

2100,

I was just reading about alot of different lights and I got the V60C @DD for $42.69 out of my pocket because I had a $50 gift card and a $10.00 and the $20 off $100 coupon code. I placed a order with them the day before using the $50 gift card so I called them and cancelled that and asked them to just add both cards together and send me one and they did, after a day in a half of waiting for it. I think that was worth it. I was looking at those VPT before and they are very cool. I just didn't know about the batteries, I would have to buy the whole set-up for that. 2100, I read alot of your post and that makes me want more and more and then ILIKEFLASHLIGHTS keeps buying more also and all his beam shots just sucks me in to ordering another light. I just wish someone would donate (give me) a Oakley Display case I think they are so bitchin looking. So if anyone knows of someone in the St. Louis MO area...
