Do you recall the brand of the bulbs?
A proper design should (nearly always) fail safely.
Of course many US companies don’t actually care if we burn to death any more then many chinese companies. They only start to care when they are held responsible or get bad press that could cut into profits. Take a video, post it on youtube, submit it to somewhere like consumerist.com & perhaps give the electric company a call about the bulbs that endangered your family, could have burned your home. Companies will often ask for the burned device. Never turn it over, they can look but can’t have. The Consumer Product Safety Commission or similar agency might want it.
Actually based on recent history if the publicity in overseas markets is bad enough and involves government entities such as the US EPA the companies owners and managers can end up dead, executed by the Chinese government. It happened to the company or companies some years ago that used lead based paints on kids toys as I recall. Personally I feel all counterfeit manufacturing should be a criminal offense with mandatory prison time.
I received a set of high end Sony headphones which turned out to be Chinese counterfeits. A web search told me what to look for but the most obvious clue was they were marked as “Made in China” while the genuine ones are made in Thailand.
Note that NONE of the linked to items are actually SOLD by Amazon. “Fulfilled by Amazon” means that the listed seller is paying Amazon to warehouse their items and ship from a Amazon warehouse. Such items are eligible for free 2 day shipment to Amazon Prime members and free regular shipping as part of orders over $35 of Amazon shipped items for regular USA account holders. Many of the “Fulfilled by Amazon” items are pure CRAP!
ONLY items described as “Ships from and sold by Amazon.com” are actually Amazon sold items with the excellent Amazon guarantee. More and more Amazon listed stuff though falls into either the “Fulfilled by Amazon” category or is shipped by and from sellers who use Amazon as a catalog and ordering service so that they do not need to have their own web site and payment software or need to use Paypal.
