I ordered two de-domed SST-40 LED’s, one is a bare LED and the other one on a 20mm MCPCB. The bare LED was wrapped in plastic and put into one of those plastic boxes that LED on MCPCB comes in, and the one bond wire broke off. You should please take care when you package these LED’s. Maybe put those plastic caps that LED’s on a reel comes in over the LED’s when you ship them. Other suppliers do it and it protects the LED very nicely.
Ooft, glad I’ve got two of them then. I killed one previously by not reflowing properly but it’s nice to have a spare now (on top of the working one in my FT03).
It appears similar to the Manker quad, not the Carclo variant. Since shipping is included at KD prices, this might be a solution for people without access to quad optics otherwise (and since Arrow has now dropped free shipping).
I really wonder who is the real maker and how to buy this in volume.
That’s because I like this optics much more than Carclo. Judging by size alone it should be 16% floodier than Carclo but actually it manages to outthrow the competitor. Furthermore simply being the smallest quad TIR around is a nice feat.
I wish more light makers would use this lens but I can’t make it a solid recommendation w/out knowing a place that sells them in bulk for reasonable price. Preferrably the manufacturer.
Mateminco, Banggood and Kaidomain are the only sources I’m aware of. I haven’t actually asked for volume quotes but I don’t think like they would be cheap enough.
also, new quad DTP mcpcb for a VERY good price. you get 2 pcs.
BANL,
could you please say a few words whether these are proprietary in any way or compatible with the other optics? Or is this just for the quad I posted earlier?
THANKS - some great innovation at KD!
edit: I also checked intl-outdoor to compare, and their 4up quad mcpcb has apparently disappeared?
edit 2:
I went through the effort of comparing the Carclo quad optic pdf specsheet and the picture shown on KD - the two optics are not exactly the same, very slight but definite differences in almost all measurements, especially overall height of the optic.
I do not have the spec sheet for the Astrolux/manker quad optic, so can’t compare.
