Luminus SST-40, a N4 BA bin tested

KD has VH Voltage binned SST-40’s now.
Has higher brightness bin too.

SST-40 was already an efficient LED. Now this should be even better.

If you don’t burn it out. :open_mouth:

Yeah, it really deserves a proper regulated driver.
Or a proper small battery in a small host.

I was searching the web just a few days ago for a higher bin SST-40’s. This must of just popped up. Good find and thanks for sharing. Ordered 4

I have just used SST40 in my BLF A6 light, but instead of using INR Battery i used a normal Samsung cell I pulled it out if a laptop battery and i got more than 6 amps on turbo and of course a lot of light, So my question is will it burn if i used INR Cell ?

And have any one successfully dedome it ? Or IT should be sliced like the XHP family ?

Any dedoming or Slicing Advice ?

Well, I sliced down an SST-40, lost lumens and no net gain in throw, and beam pattern/tint is worse. So from my experience, I would not recommend, but who knows if I did it wrong. Haven't slice much LED's but an XHP70 I did came out well.

I dedomed one (from KD) fairly successfully in pure toluene at a high temperature.
It took quite a long time though…
A few tiny flakes of silicone left on the die, but nothing to worry about.
But the die is larger than XP-L or XM-L2, so you either need large optics or a lot of power (or both) to get impressive throw numbers.

Nice to know that worked. The die is maybe slightly larger. I measured about 10% less throw than dedomed XPL V6 at the same current (~6A).

I have a SST-40 N5 BC coming on the way, has anyone had experience with this bin? to my understanding N5 is the highest bin for this led

Es muy bueno, convoy c8+ a17ddfet,puentes en resortes y tira de 6.5 mah sin problema de momento,el tiro en la vida real es como un xpl hi,no vale la pena dedomed, está ala altura del xpl2 sin manchas amarillas

Hm, looks if someone has his forums mixed-up. Yo no hablo español.

This is an international forum. Some folks do understand the second most popular language on our planet. There should be no problem with folks corresponding in what ever language they feel most comfortable communicating in.

Yeh, just c&p the whole load, then dump it into goggle to translate.

Means

Is very good, C8+ with a 17 mm DD FET driver and bypassed springs throws 6.5A with no problems at the moment, the throw in real life is like a XPL hi, it is not worth to dedome, it’s at the level of the xp-l 2 without yellow spots.

While that is true, the OP apparently knows enough English to read through this thread and reply, and also has access to Google Translator…

Too bad :cerveza: doesn’t work.

I haven’t seen any more info on it. I received a few from KD that I might use. The BC tint bin is a bit warmer and a bit greener than the BA bin. I wonder if the extra green has anything to do with it being a higher brightness bin, green being the brightest color to our eyes.

It is also the VH voltage bin, one lower than the common N4 BA bin around. I’m nervous about using them in single emitter applications just because it seems like it might be easy to burn the bond wires.

I’m aware of the low VF VH voltage bin, I’m planning on using it with a GTmini with the shorty tube and a keeppower 18350 which got less Amps then a sanyo GA so I hope it will be fine, I use to have a N4 BA before and i loved the white tint with zero tint shift but if the N5 BC will be brighter with my small 18350 then that’s what I want
