New Luminus SST-20 (3535 size)

I ordered 3 of them. I will try them in my fet driven convoy L2. One will be sliced, one will be dedomed and one stock untouched.

Could you test whether the original MCPCB was DTP? And sorry, I meant can you measure the throw of the SST20 in the UT02?

With slicing domes, the luminance is sensitive to how close you slice it to the die. Measurement of LED luminance as a function of dome thickness

1200-1300 lumens , intensity >= than xp-g2 (probably) , better dedome tint (based on sst-40 experience) , all this for 1$ ?

Can’t wait for this to be my favourite led for small throwers

Good to see the improvements on the new MCPCB.

If you can take a few close-ups of the top of the original MCPCBs and post them here, it’ll likely be pretty obvious whether they are DTP or not.

As for testing them, in case you don’t know, on a bare MCPCB, just check for continuity between thermal pad and the copper core.

Center pad and the underside of the aliexpress mcpcb do have conductivty with each other. Soooooo, it’s DTP, right? Mcpcb pics below.

Also played with centering and spacing the sst-20. The beam pattern looks much nicer now. Its the only flashlight I have that has a negative tappering beam. Looks phenomenal.

As far as lux goes, Was hoping for upper 2XX but it only came in at 216k. Alil shocking, since the beam looks so daym good.

And for the guys that asked about the dedome potion, it’s from a company called (Crown and its their Pro Thinner) the only place I can find it is from Sherman William’s retail stores.
15 mins boiling for xm-l2 and xp-g2. 30-35 mins boiling for sst-40s. it does not work on the sst-20. Or at least 50 mins of boiling doesn’t work. I’ll try one more time and boil it for 1 hour and make little cuts on the sides to help aid the seperation.

Thanks. For whatever reason though, the link for the MCPCB pix throws a 404 error.

Hmmm, your right. I made a new link.

Got three today, put one in my B158B, direct drive and sliced.
I don’t have any numbers (well, none that could be trusted) but it outthrow the dedomed XP-L that was in there before.

Sweet! How does the spill look? Did you try trimming any of that extra side material that’s left over after slicing.

Did a led swap just now. Took a brand new sofirn SF36 NW xpl V6. My measurement came in at 960 LUMENS Sofirn advertises 1070 lumens.

Swapped In a sst-20 using the SF36 original 10mm copper mcpcb and also by passing both springs. Nothing else was done. Using the same battery, after 15 seconds 1008 lumens.
Removed the tail, Using a short 10awg wire and unit-T clamp DDM I’m measuring 4.06 amps at tail.

Pros’s:
Much tighter and simply more fun beam.
Should now have better battery life.
Higher lux and lumens.

Con’s:
Lost the xp-l V6’s awesome neutral 4500-5000k tint.
Sst-20 tint reminds me of a 1992 honda civic with illegal HID headlights.(7000k-8000k)

How did you direct drived this SST20?
I got 3 of them. Putted two in my Fet TA driver Convoy L2 and when I switched it in turbo….instant death. I got three so I only left one. I think I will test it at work with a bench power supply how much it can take without dying. but this is sad news for me. I think it is not better than XP-G2.

hahaha damn

Well… it’s reflowed on a Noctigon MCPCB and there’s simply no driver at all.
That said I didn’t measured the current, but it was fed with a 30Q

Finally I got some SST-20-W from KD. :THUMBS-UP:

Test now in progress. Seems it's a nice LED, with 1600 lumens @ 6 Amps (domed), but with a bit greenish tint.

I'll publish my test the next days. :)

I reflowed mines on DTP copper MCPCB and didn’t have a chance to measure current.

Addendum: due to its much smaller die the luminance of domed SST-20-W @ 6,000 mAmps is as high as of XP-L HI V3!

I received 10 from AliExpress yesterday. Reflowed on onto a 20mm DTP MCPCB and used it to replace an SST-40 an a F13 with a BLF A6 driver.

All I’m sure of is that it falls short of the total output of a similar light with an SST-40 and a Mountain FET+1 driver, but I think the mountain driver has a lower resistance FET.

Which is obvious, since it’s the smaller version of the SST-40. It should increase the luminous intensity (throw) though.

Okay, so I tested two of them in the following setups :

Amutorch JM70 TA FET driver : old emitter was a dedomed XP-L (warm tint)
Before : 363 X3 kCd
After : 400 X3 kCd

Convoy C8 Biscotti driver 8*7135 : old emitter was a XP-L HI (neutral tint)
Before : 100 X3 kCd
After : 120 X3 kCd

Please take this number as comparison only, I use my phone as a luxmeter :person_facepalming:
That said, I’m confident that the relative numbers are trust able.

So what I see is about +20% in throw at the same current.

Now I want to try a sliced one in the C8… might give a 10% bump in throw I guess

^ If you get to 180 kcd (not phone kcd  ) in a C8 you are in dedomed old XP-G2 S4 2B territory.
