Design 1 looks great, like a high end product from some other expensive manufacturers. Im all in for a stainless steel bezel. If possible, make sure that any of the grooves on the battery tube are not too deep. This is to keep maximum strength and impact resistance, I really dont like lights where the grooves are so deep, that the light seems to snap at that very point. Im also for the SMO reflector, with OP we might end up with just another Q8 beam pattern wise. Would it be possible to make the side switch metallic similar to Thrunite?
Stainless Steel bezel greatly preferred. Willing to pay a couple bucks extra.. If bezel is not stainless… make it Black.
Head…. whatever is best for heat transfer & sinking. As said before… Function first…… Form second. Form follows Function.
Smooth reflector greatly preferred.
As far as reflector goes, I was thinking the same thing Jason was…. smooth. I have thought for months, from previous reading; the XHP70.2 did away with the problems of the XHP70 & a smooth reflector.
I guess I need to do some more reading maybe. .
I like how this is coming along. I do prefer the stepped head look over the rounded “toilet plunger” look but as it was said a number of times before: form follows function.
Question: Has a price range been set for this or will that only come towards the end once all the details are ironed out? I’m wondering because I could see a company willing to let a few details slide (SS vs. aluminum bezel for instance or less machining) to meet a certain price point. If the main goal is to outperform a few other similar lights, the price could be quite different and a “spare no expense” attitude could prevail. Any help in this area?
I actually prefer the rubber buttons as a rule since they can be made water resistant. Metal buttons are much harder to make resistant unless they are done like the MT09R
I believe that many of us are more demanding than just “form follows function” and the overall aesthetics play an important role. While the stepped design looks really high-end and gets my wallet ready, I would probably skip the cheapo “toilet-plunger” look.
EDIT: I mixed up form and function :person_facepalming:
If we were only after FUNCTION, why not to mill just a hole in a thick slab of aluminium for best heat transfer.
??? That last sentence of yours sure does contradict what you said above it Dioda. There is not much “form” in a “hole in a thick slab of aluminium”. No “form” at all really. And certainly not “more demanding”.
Form following function does not mean the external has to be ugly. It means it is designed internally & externally to provide the absolute best heat sinking & heat dissipation.
And it is perfectly fine if your opinion is a “toilet-plunger type head looks cheapo”. But that may or may not be the opinion of the majority. So maybe you will have to pass if it does not meet your criteria. I guess time will tell….
Because you need fins to create more surface area to exchange the heat.
But i feel with you, i prefer the S70 head look.
At first, i thought the X5/X6 style would be nice, but that looks don’t work on this light.
If you make deeper fins on the S70 style light, it would be a beast since it can be made with thick aluminium and much surface area which equals better cooling.
Nope, Im all in for the “stacked”, design 1 look. Maximum heat transfer is not everything. That plunger look is a no-no in my design book Will see how it turns out in the end.
The rubber button cover will be translucent like on the Q8. This way you can see the leds under it.
They have told be the price they are aiming at. It is very good! But they may be waiting until more details are ironed out before they publicly announce it.
