TK's Emisar D4 review

Maybe they are preparing for 21700?…Just hoping.
BTW I expected D1S to be shorter than Z1, despite the longer name.

In for purple!

Wait, is purple an option now?

May have to get 2….

It’d be great to talk Hank into doing a deep purple run, I mean, who else does it? Aside from the big Maglite’s I don’t remember ever seeing a deep purple ano on a light. Sure is pretty when done right!

Dale those two are absolutely beautiful

Thanks Joey. The Sinner Ti EDC 18350 with the flamed rainbow of colors I traded off in a deal on an Alienware laptop, Soldier returned home, more or less gave it to him.

The Mokume Gane in Nickel Silver and Cu will be with me to my grave.

So maybe yes? We can do purple?

+1 on “Deep” Purple (Dark)

Next up for Emisar will be purple with pink polka dots. :disappointed:

lol, don’t know about the dots but I can take it Polka dancing…

When I did that Titanium Sinner, I sanded it, cleaned it with denatured alcohol and never touched it before the flame hit it. Where those streaks and dots came from is beyond me. But it sure looked neat, wish I knew why it did it so I could do it again!

+1 on the purple mr. Wang

That usually means you’re squeezing it too tightly.

Beautiful lights Dale :sunglasses:

It’s funny you mention that, since I have my D1S right next to my Z1 to remind me to compare them.

The D1S is slightly shorter and slightly narrower, but has a wider optic. My Z1 throws farther, but it’s using a de-domed XP-G2 while the D1S uses XP-L HI… so of course the XP-G2 light throws farther. With the emitters swapped, it should be the other way around.

With the 18350 tube, the D1S is surprisingly balanced since the front third is mostly air. It looks ridiculous, but it’d be cool to have a 120-130 kcd thrower that small. However, I confirmed that the D1S is not compatible with the shorty tubes and is intended for only 18650 cells.

I got to try it outside, and the D1S has a really nice beam outdoors. The hotspot illuminates things pretty far away, while a relatively bright and narrow corona provides a nice amount of context. This is different than the D1, which mostly just has a wider hotspot and a dim spill area without much corona… or the D4, which has an even wider hotspot with bright pinwheel-shaped corona and virtually no spill.

The Z1, of course, is just the hotspot with absolutely nothing else, so its use is more specialized. It’s good for scaring away owls on the roof without shining light into any nearby windows.

I’ll have to get whitewall shots to show the beam shapes.

I was thinking about buying one of these clips to the D4. Is it so hard to take out?

Also, did anyone tried the “Convoy S2+” clip in the D4 18350 version?
Thanks!!

I saw that the driver has indicator support. Will be the D4 or D1 available later with switch with indicator led?

Having the Z1 beside the D1S while in the wide angle mode is misleading. Since the D1S is a thrower, the Z1 should be zoomed to the narrow beam for an apples to apples comparison and then the size difference would stand out in a major way.

I disagree. For me, size matters when the light is in storage. In the hand, it can have any size that doesn’t hamper my operations.

Id love to see a pic of that D1S in 18350 mode!

The dimensions look good enough for an after market or special run of 20700/21700 tubes. 20700 yes, 21700 maybe. It’s pushing it a little on clearance at the threads. I think it would need a little thickness added to the outside for heat absorbing mass. The little buggers heat up quickly as is with current mass. A high capacity 20700 and it’ll be the EDC you recharge yearly. Dale, how much do you enjoy your modification and a picture please.

I don’t have a D1s yet, they’re not available at Hank’s store as of yesterday afternoon. Spent plenty there anyway! Hahaha
