I was just commenting in another topic, Surefire is WAY over priced and needs some SERIOUS competition.
I’ll admit, I have Surfire lights, and they take a beating like the Energizer Bunny.
Are they behind in the industry? Yes. Ever since Paul Kim left SF, they have felt it.
SF is butt hurt. PK Designs is in the wake. As is more well known designers.
That’s the point, that people who get Suefire lights don’t want it to break. Ever. They’re often military or in lawn-forcement, and want something Reliable™ at all costs. When your life might very well literally depend on it…
You and I can make due with a 50buk light (or 20buk light, or 10buk light) and probably have a spare or two squirreled away Just In Case.
There’s a market for hi-rel components, definitely. Me, I’d rather just have spares.
You, too, eh? When I misplaced my little 3buk bobofett light for a day or two, I almost had to cry myself to sleep.
Thank B’harni I found it on the kitchen counter later. Still no idea how it got there.
Yeah, that’s why I stopped EDCing my 80buk Quark and started EDCing a modded ’502. (And even that ’502 I’m now emotionally bonded with… no more “throwaway” light!)
Exactly, a lot of pro stuff is overpriced simply because professionals and corporations can afford it.
It’s not meant to be bought by regular consumers, even less ones coming from a “budget” forum xD
No… it’s just logic… why would the head be any looser than any other flashlight?
From my experience with the hellfighter, the stuff is screwed on so tight that you need to make a custom tool to remove stuff.
A 1/4” bolt even ripped in half while disassembling.
Also, the UM2 has a button on the side which is an “on off” switch, so it doesn’t need to be unscrewed to turn off.
All flashlights are not created equal. I could send you one that the threads will probably strip if you tightened it too much by hand. Cheap and nasty.
The hellfighter is not what this post is about as you pointed out to another poster above “But this post is about the UM2 not the 6P”.
The hellfighter looks like a beast of a build by all accounts but it would need to be over engineered to withstand some of the uses it was designed for, tank mounting being one of them.
Was just speaking from experience with the brand, it seems like all their lights are built this well from what I hear.
I see no reason for the “head to fall off”
The UM2 is also built for similar military applications, it’s not a home use flashlight for the typical BLF member…
How is that a 300$ light? i dont get it. .whats so special considering the price when u can get similar lights from olight or nitecore for half the price or less and get still good stuff ??
Yea, some things are now impossible to source in the USA because we don’t make them.
I remember asking these guys “(First Light)”:https://www.firstlight-usa.com/products/tomahawk-gp-tactical-light about which LED’s and components they use on Face Book and getting and some generic response about then being the “best” and that they use ” The most efficient LED’s that produce the most light”
Surefire disgusts me. They have so much bloomin’ potential, but literally the only thing they care to offer is durability – everything else is ridiculously overpriced garbage. It’s a scam almost as bad as the Shadowhawk bamboozle, except the SFs aren’t (necessarily) about to blow up at any second.
Not that I expect them to care, they’re far too happy gouging the US government to bother with smaller clienteles.
On that topic, has anyone ever seen a Shofaya being sold outside the US? Or users outside the US, for that matter? I know I never saw either, even amongst the snobbiest of torch snobs.
I am also wondering what LED’s are in this light, is it a flooder or a thrower?
I never owned a reliable light, what makes these lights to be considered reliable?
I kind of like the modes 5-100-600,
don’t you need an SOS strobe in a military application?
