Lumen output on stock lights is about the same.
The S70 is under-rated by Thorfire with most reporting 3,600-3,800 (myself included) compared to the Convoy”s 3800 lumens with a CW emitter.
I do not have an L6 to compare but I think the build is very good on the S70 & possibly handles heat a little better from what I have read plus it has the illuminated mode switch & comes with a carrying sling & spares package.
I was waiting for the clear L6 to become available with an illuminated side switch but I have just ordered an S70s
At least 4000 lumens for $37 was just to good a deal to pass up :+1:
The S70/S70s is not a thrower as such but it does light up a long long way due to the massive lumen output :+1:
At $38 it is probably the best bang for buck high powered light out there & is very well built, like a tank
I am guessing that the same simple solder blob mod will up the out put to around 5000-5200 lumens the same as on the stock S70
TBH though the stock light at about 4000 lumens is very very bright as it is
According to Matt at ASF a stock L6 will do 75500Lux, and adding Simons smooth reflector will bump that by 13000 and land you near 88550. That should be right around $60
Unfortunately those are just arbitrary numbers without a direct comparison to other lights, and I can’t really say how far that translates…. others no doubt will have more experience and can hopefully comment.
I could have sworn he tested/reviewed a U21 / UT02… But I guess not, bummers that would have been more useful.
One things for sure, big reflector designs are not cheap. In this price range its going to be hard to beat an L6 or S70s.
Yeah, I ordered an S70s a few days ago on Ali and it was $36.48 but I think the price has crept upwards. (Still a solid deal)! Shipped out and I got a tracking # the following day from placing my order.
That’s odd because I didin’t think the S70s is even a thrower like the L2 is
In terms of visible, use-able light (not measurable light), does the L2 put use-able, visible light on a target further down range than the S70 or S70s ?
In other words, if the S70/S70s can put as much visible/use-able light on a target as far downrange as the L2, but the S70’s also provide more scatter light, wouldn’t that make the S70’s a better purchase?
Please remember, I’m looking for a thrower as I already have a Convoy L6
Of course the S70s or a light with XHP70 is not a dedicated thrower perse BUT come on, for around $40 the S70S and for around $50 the L6 just produce such a blast of light they reach pretty far (say at 300-400 meters things can be seen.)
Butit is not in a pencil beam, the S70S and L6 light up a whole field, not only a small spot.
It was $42 less a $3 discount & $2 off coupon so $42 less $5 = $37 :+1:
It is now at $43 with a $2 coupon (the $3 discount has gone) so $41.
It is still a hell of a light for $41
S70 and L6 aint throwers, they do spill alot: sometimes its usefull, sometimes not
For 60$ ro arround that the best one you could buy is Olight M2X( coild be found for 60 or smth): easy moddable , light( 220 grams), easy to carry, 240+cds easy reaching even with its default driver and the lame HI emitter inside, if modded like it should be youll get 300+ cds
