So that they can say āmy dad is bigger than your dadāā¦.
Itās all a massive numbers game. Big numbers sell. This is 10k lumens, that is crazy. I still reckon itāll be too hot to hold after 5mins if it stays on full pelt.
Couldnāt high mode be 2500 lumens or something sustainable for 10 mins or so?
1200 lumens from something capable of 9000 is more like a low to medium mode.
Nope, then youāll get the folks whining about how this is a poorly engineered product because it canāt even stay on high for more than 10 minutes or so. So we get modes called turbo, turbo 1, turbo 2, etc. High can run for 2.5 hours, doesnāt that look great on paper? Ha! I donāt want the highest mode to be able to stay on indefinitely. I want it to push to the point just before damage to the flashlight occurs, and if that causes 3rd degree burns or starts a fusion reaction, thatās okay with me.
Iām going to have to look into that engineering mode. 10 lumen moonlight is ridiculous, but I could see times where Iād swap a true moonlight for a specific low.
/\ Sure but how long will it last on turbo without dropping down in power dramatically.
The body is small. There doesnāt appear to be much mass in there for getting rid of the heat from the emitters.
The nearest thing Iāve got to that is the TN36 and that gets too hot to hand hold after ~15mins
My concern with this light is the size of the light and the amount of heat itās going to put out. Iāve just sat down with my TN36 (fresh cells), a temperature probe and a lux meter.
The light was on for 15mins and went from room temperature (probe reads a little high here) and topped out at 68c.
At this point the light was too hot to hold and the output had dropped a fair bit. Iāve got no way of accurately measuring at the moment but the lux meter shows you an idea of how many āunitsā it dropped by rather than just seeing it get a bit darker.
So this is a 6000 lumen light that looses power quite dramatically in under 15mins and at the same time gets far too hot to hold.
How this 10k lumen monster will cope is beyond me!
Not only the heat of the emitters but when I took the cells out just now they were all really hot. 15mins use and down to 3.96v too so quite an impact.
Iāll post a 4x sped up youtube video in just a bit so you can see 15mins compressed a fair bit
