No, I suspect itâs a few of you making a lot of noise a most of us keeping quiet not to make things worse. We have a whole subforum for Off-topic Chatter As you said:
If anyone considers some topic slightly related to this discussion, posting a link to it is very easy. Someone whoâs not interested then only has a single post to read, not 50.
What would be the likelihood of getting colored e-switch buttons, like for example, pink? Or the possibility of a choice in colors for a glow-in-the-dark o-ring at the lens? Iâm sure a lot of folks would like such things, especially for those gift lightsâŚ
The LEDâs would be easy to swap out after market, kinda doubt they would offer different colors from the factory. That would be really hard to keep track of.
Donât bother trying to use logic and sound reasoning here. They will always counter with: âhey, these gurus are designing a great light for you, uncompensated. Weâll do whatever we want and we donât care if we waste your time, because youâre getting a great light for cheap. Now put up or shut up!â
That sounds just outright hilariousâŚ. Priceless & well doneâŚâŚ I was in on a few workplace pranks in my timeâŚ. but never one as neat as this one sounds.
I like the way Clemence describes BLF as a flashaholicsâ cafe, a good place to hang out in (confiding he has forgotten he has an account in that other forum.)
I grew up near train tracks, counting the boxcars pass by; the Harry Potter Reality Distortion Field does nothing for me, but OMG do I love hot peppers, and hearing about self abusing snacks to keep looking for at Wally World.
That does not surprise me one bit âjustanotherguyâ. ⌠The subject of English in school was never my forteâŚ. and the punctuation part of that subject was even worse.
Woot it is getting a bit much for me too, when I see 43 new posts I am like âoh oh what is wrong?â Tap only to see off topic chatter
Though interesting I can image it is a bit annoying if one expects the topic to explode when new input or even order time comes and then see 100+ new posts after two days only to see trains, 26650 chargers, pepper talk and what not
If this isnât cruel it sounds like a nice idea, just liberate them and donât fry then on turbo
I generally enjoy the chatter, but I also think those who do not enjoy it make a valid point.
There are a variety of different cultures interacting here, two of which are often described metaphorically as the cathedral and the bazaar. That may not exactly match the situation here, but I find itâs still close enough to be a useful lens to view things through.
Iâve been pretty solidly in the bazaar camp for ages, where things are messy, loud, and chaotic⌠TBH, I kind of thrive on chaos. However, thereâs nothing wrong with preferring a cathedral approach which is more structured, orderly, and quiet. For some, this is a fun place to hang out; for others itâs a place to get news. If both can be accommodated, that seems like it would be ideal.
So, is anyone willing to maintain a highlights reel in a separate thread? Copy/paste the most important on-topic comments from the main thread to the summary thread, for the benefit of those who donât want the full firehose of discussion? All it takes is one volunteer.
TK, thatâs already been done; sort of. Every time the thread changes subject line something major has happened and thatâs seen in the email notifications if one is the least bit attentive. Then one doesnât need to chase down the posts at the end of the thread, but just go to the first post for the âCliffs Notesâ version. The rest is just minutia. Maybe these folks donât understand that.
To those unhappy folks, Sorry, but itâs friends discussing stuff with friends. Weâre waiting the same as everyone else and it does no good to take it out on others, it wonât get the Q8s here any quicker. Learn to speed read and skim posts to get through the minutia if you wonât use the navigation aids at the top of the page to get to the first post in the thread for the latest news. The Miller does a great job keeping it up to date as major events occur.
TK, Your 2 thread idea would work (posted back aways), but itâs basically already been implemented if folks just go to the first post in the thread.
Since this is my only light forum, I have no idea how the âotherâ forum is run, but I can definitely state that this is NOT that forum. Itâs definitely the BLF since itâs my only light forum. Iâd probably find the other forum to be stuffy and unsociable. This sort of thread is the âworstâ for this behavior, so just deal with it. We (mostly others and not me) deal with the endless questions that have been dealt with repeatedly regarding cells, yada, yada, that were answered many times previously. It did no good to keep things on track regarding the Q8, hence the âbazaarâ. Might as well have fun and enjoy each others company if weâre going to be asked the same questions over and over anyway. It feeds on itself. High post count hides info so noobs ask it all over again upping the post count so that it making no difference whatâs discussed. So IMO the folks complaining would complain anyway no matter what was discussed. That doesnât make their complaints irrelevant, just unworkable. Basically the complaint as I see it is that there is no index. No one is paid to do it⌠all volunteers here. Now make it worth someones while and negotiate a price and it could happen. Iâm not interested in the job since I choose what I do today and if I donât want to do it there is no price that can entice me, but others might be. Yeah, I thought that wouldnât happen either but I had to mention it.
One approach to the too-long-and-messy thread side effects would be to have someone maintain a blog, posting updates, news and pictures when itâs worth it.
