Just finished sending PMs to those with issues, IF YOU HAVE NOT GOTTEN THIS PLEASE PM ME :)
AFF LINK RESULTS AND WHAT HAPPENED (or is happening) WITH IT.
Despite we were not aiming at making money Banggood was so kind to still allow us to do so.
It seemed fair to distribute these funds roughly like this:
40% team (7 people)
40% special involved BLFers (14 people)
20% GAW for those on the list before the PMs were send.
Over 1300 people have used the aff link and I have recieved money on my PayPal.
After fees and taxes this is what it boils down to:
7 x ~$55 for each member of the team $385 (free to use how they want as of now $82.50 allocated for Mrs Lumens)
14 x ~$27,50 for special involved BLFers $385 (payments started to those who reacted, as of now $27.50 allocated for Mrs Lumens)
14 x ~$14 for a GAW to members on the list before PMs send $196 (SB is yet to draw, so winners will e published later and given the choice as the rest has, they can use it for what they want :) )
$966 total to be distributed.
Awaiting further response to PMs and emails now.
If more choose to give it to Mrs Lumens it will be posted without the name, I want all to eel free to use it for what they want.

Relax about shipping of your order, it will get there. the dates mentioned on Banggood do not say anything other then the absolute latest, when the pre orders started it was not clear that th first would be send out so fast yet shipping started the same day and while it was expected that now after a week the shipping would commence, some already have their Q8 in hand. read FIRST again and please "order and forget" is much better for ones stress levelsthat constantly checking shipping status. JUST DONT DO IT!

Tracking is buggy at best, there is a long chain between you and your light, delays are possible at each link of that chain.

TheOnlyDocc very strange behavior, sometimes under reproducible situations the driver "thinks" it is in regulated mode and steps down, even if the actual setting is lower, making it actually bump up the brightness. It is easy to not have it behave like this but it seems a flaky MCU having trouble writing to memory. Tom and TOD are working on it.

NOTE

Timing of click for off, hold the switch just a tad too long and the Q8 will not register it as shut down command but treat it as a very short ramp command. Your light is not broken :)

TWEAK

On some Q8 lights there can be a sandblasting powder residue under the tailpcb and in the screwholes for the tail pcb mounting screws.

On some Q8 lights there can be some sort of glue residue in the screwholes for the tail pcb mounting screws.

No worries it is not conductive, but that does mean there can be bump in output achieved when removing and cleaning it. The screws are very tight, USE A MATCHING SCREWDRIVER AND RUBBER BAND BETWEEN SCREW AND SCREWDRIVER TO AVOID STRIPPING!

Thorfire will clean better during the rest of the production.

CHECK

Answer. yes some lube is very likely required, please add your favorite flavor. Good point about tube, please use file and/or sandpaper to smoothen things out if too rough for your liking.

Sharp edge

leroycp found a sharp edge on the head 4th fin above both switch and opposite side adapter hole

Packaging

Flashy Mike packaging was damaged during shipping with a ding on the tailcap as result

Vague

teacher Claimed to have a DOA, the worse thing we could read.
Reading PM with clear question no to fix and make either clear pictures of swap with a good Q8 of Tom (shipping paid by me) but going silent for almost two days.
Then all of a sudden claims switch light not working when main LEDs off, rest functionality intact.
Very unclear story and not providing asked for information and doing opposite of that was asked for.

SCREWS:

Screws. really not an issue, they do their job, are lower then the brass ring of the driver. One might want to change them, please discuss in Q8 modding topic https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/46241

Please stop talking about the screws in this topic unless there is a real issue in YOUR light with them.

Some tips on the screws, they are tight, use a properly fitting screwdriver and to be sure a rubber band to make the screwdriver fit even better while removing them.

Use protected button top cells for a bit extra safety, below are cells that give max output but do not have protection!

Use matched "married" cells and check for equal wear regularly!

OK the SRK is a light that comes up very often, and well when it comes up there always are people saying how poorly they are made nowadays.
Sky Ray King, a soda can flashlight. Once constructed solid, now cloned and made cheaper and cheaper. The good cooling properties are long gone and many have fake LatticeBright LEDs on a thin aluminium board driven by a poor quality thin wired driver.

So lets force out a good one like they used to be, but with modern features.

Little cheat, power on the Q8 and immediately power it off to disable indicator/beacon untill next power on.

The BLF Q8 is a very powerful flashlight that requires some knowledge before and during use.
The Q8 is intended to be used with button top cells.
The use of protected cells is highly recommended.
Please make sure to install the cells correct, the button in the direction of the head/LEDs.
The Q8 is a very bright flashlight, do not point the beam at others.
Never leave the flashlight ON unattended.
The Q8 is not a toy, do not let children play with it.
Hold it when in use to monitor the temperatures and turn the light off or switch to a lower mode when it starts to become really warm.
Turn the Q8 off and let it cool if it gets hot.
Use the lock-out sequence to deactivate the switch before putting the Q8 in a pocket or bag.
When you want to store the light for a longer period of time, make sure it is clean and dry and in case you want to keep cells in it, lock the current by unscrewing the battery tube a bit (turn the light on, unscrew until it goes off).
It is advised to clean the outer parts of the light periodically.
Every couple of months check the threads, adding a bit of grease to the threads if needed.

The light is safe with features to prevent parasitic drain to avoid depleting the battery when not in use.

When the switch is not locked out by user and is pressed for 20 seconds it will automatically lock out and turn the light off, to make sure it will not go on when put in a bag or pocket.

Opposite of the switch a 1/4” UNC thread can be used for mounting the Q8 to a tripod and hands free operation.

Nice initiative! But if the idea is going to be a new design by a manufacturer, I see a thousand good reasons to have a good conversation with kronological about it, to avoid the many pitfalls.

I like the idea of Thorfire making it more than a deal with Fasttech. I think I remember that attempts of group buys with discount never worked with Fasttech.

If it is designed from scratch, a version can be made with a 4mm shelf that is continuous with the body, and separate ledboards screwed on top of it, that would be very versatile, and good for the heat path! The driver could simply be the Kronos X5/X6 driver expanded to the SRK-size board. A (elegant) handle would be a great extra!

Great idea, always wanted a good SRK. However I would go with an electronic switch version and forget the lighted tailcap.

I’m interested. I’m short on funds, so can’t commit to anything yet, but I like it. One thing I’d like to suggest, though. I know a lot of people like tail clicky for lockout, but I’d rather see lockout through the UI with the side e-switch. It works well on the Olight S20-L2, IMHO. And it will cut down on the major design changes that need to be done to the light.

An integrated shelf is also a nice cost reductor compared to copper or brass screwins.

And as far as group buys, yes it is my first, however I do have some experience with dealing with Azian companies.

Well the Supfire M6 for 40 USD is just the basic version, if you want the “pimped version” with higher output (4000 lumens) and better FW you must add another 50 USD!

I would not recommend to go for a lighted tailcap, but It would be great to have a choice of LED type (Nichia for the photographers and those who want the natural colors or Cree´s for maximum output)

Anyway i´m interested! I was tempted many times to get me such a can but resisted because I din´t want the cheap latticebright LEDs….

the only two main differences wth the original SRK are the integrated shelf and cell status via side witch.

We are basically asing Thorfire to make a new light, based on proven design, proven pularity, known sale of first batch. They can up the price for their own branded ones and have the best SRK available, we would recommend that instead of the Supfire.
I think whoever i going to build this light is offered a great deal but I would love to see a Happy box SRK arrive :wink:
