My number 1 silly reason for not wanting to buy one is “I don’t need it” To most that would be reason enough, but for me THAT is the most compelling reason to buy it.
C’mon guys, live a little.
BTW, think us guys never buy stuff we don’t need? Here is a list of the top 10 best selling cars in America in 2015. Notice that the top 3 are pickup trucks.
Now pickup trucks can be useful, but do you really think that everyone that buys a pickup truck buys them because they are useful?
The most useful light I own is my EDC, a cheap SK68 clone and I use it all the time!
useful = boring
Also, in life, anything that is considered elegant is also not practical. HAS to be. Name one thing that is both elegant AND practical! (don’t mention a $7000 Rolex, cheap watches are MORE practical)
Now, THE number 1 reason someone may pass over this light, the 1 reason that really bugs me.
“It’s not tactical”
For some reason, peer pressure?, many flashlight enthusiasts will look down their noses at a light IF it does not conform to what they would consider the qualities of a tactical flashlight. It’s as though the only reason whatsoever to have a flashlight in the first place is because they are a member of some imaginary, elite government security force and in order to perform their duties (live their boring, trivial little life) they just must absolutely have a light that can pass ALL of these specifications.
1. It can be used as a weapon
2. Must be able to be used under water.
3. Must have a military grade anodized coating on it.
4. Be able to run at it’s highest mode until the batteries a fully drained.
There are others, but you might get my point by now.
BTW, this list of tactical qualities is the reason so many lights come with both the hated SOS and Strobe modes.
Here are some other reasons why someone might choose NOT to buy this light.
“Made by Imalent”
“It’s a flooder, not a thrower” (there are thrower snobs out there, you know)
“Too many lumens, too much money, too big and heavy, It’s dangerous, etc
”It should have active cooling, etc. etc.
All I can say is this, of all the lights I have bought since I came to this forum, taking into account the progression of the technology during that time, this with out a doubt is the most impressive light I have ever come across. THAT, and that alone, to me justifies my purchase. And I wish that at some point in the not too distant future ANOTHER light comes along that will do the same.
For me EVERYTHING has changed. None of my other lights look the same to me anymore.
As an example, last night I grilled chicken outside in the dark. I took a 6-XML SRK with me to do it.
Normally I would have used my SK68, but as I mentioned, EVERYTHING has changed.
It’s true though, this light absolutely NEEDS a fan.
But then it couldn’t be used under water…………………………….
Please forgive my rant. I am a maverick and have never conformed, nor succumbed to peer pressure.
It’s the reason I use Harbor Freight meters, buy cheap Chinese flashlights, drive a Van as my work vehicle, and generally have a good time doing what I want to do.
Yes, I own this light because of the WOW factor.
I like to be WOW’d
