How do you think a simple lantern would tell the difference between a powerbank and any other USB source?
both are intended to be widely compatible in terms of the power interface, so it would be very strange if there were any reason to reject the power source unless it were faulty enough to be well outside acceptable USB voltages.
I had made that assumption as well, but I figure why not ask. I will assume the powerbank will then also provide some charge to the 18650 inside the lantern.
Mine arrived a couple of days ago! Hurrah! I find the UI quite frustrating, I keep brightness ramping or switching between CW and NW.
Only other gripe is the brightness ramp pattern, mine goes from 3 to about 100 lumens in about 0.5 seconds, then 100 to 300 in about 4 seconds. I miss the super smooth Emisar/Narsil ramp
I don’t find it annoying. When on low, it appears to jump up to a slightly higher brightness, then smooth the rest of the way. Ramping on the way down to low appears smoother. The nice thing about it, once you get the color temp and brightness you want, it remembers it. Whether or not it’s a deal breaker is subjective and a personal opinion. Either way, the lantern is about the cost of a couple micro brew beers at your local pub.
Although I really like the lantern, I can’t set my desired level. It’s like 3 lumens, then the next step is about 30-40 lumens and then you can gradually set the desired brightness up to 300. I haven’t succeed in removing my finger fast enough at about 5-10 lumens which would be my sweet spot. Not a deal breaker (as I’ll be buying 2 more…) but definitely annoying… very annoying. Solving this problem would make it the ideal budget friendly lantern.
There’s room for improvement on everything. But for 18 bucks, this lantern is darn good. Way more adjustable than the Fenix CL25R and more than $40 cheaper. Will it hold up as well as the Fenix? Time will tell.
RobertB , derfyled, and Pete7874 Good information, thanks for the feedback.
After reading I feel for the money it would be worthwhile, I am considering to go for more than one, maybe four of these. Two for gifts, two for me. Right know I am waiting for the outcome of the Freeme interest list.
I’ll drink PBR’s for awhile and my savings will go towards the lanterns :+1:
3 LM is nice. 1 LM would have been even nicer, but I am not complaining.
EDIT: actually, per Instruction Manual, the lowest mode is 3 LM for cool white, and 1 LM for warm white, but it still seems pretty bright in a completely dark room - it might be too bright to sleep with it in a tent.
