Received a new SS enogear. Again very nice. Only this time no 14500 support and no clip.
Nihm only is fine for me with this light, but I do need a pocketclip. I contacted Jackie from enogear, will see what happens.
Anyone got a good source for ss pocketclips as backup?
The new ones say no 14500?
At least my new one does not work with 14500.
Are you sure? You need to have button top batteries. Most, if not all, NiMH batteries have button top’s.
The driver is flat, with a little “knob” on it. The spring of the tail switch pushes the battery against the driver. In my case, the retainer ring sticks out further than this little knob. So the body of the battery is stopped by retainer ring, thus preventing the cathode of the battery touching the knob on the driver plate. Try a magnet.

You are a flashaholic if you are forced to come out of the closet, to make room for more flashlights.
Can someone please measure the driver (maybee a picture too)?
Borrowed from another thread:
=======================
The size is about the width of my fist (small hands). With an SS body, you are carrying around something with enough weight to be a bit re-assured that you are not completely empty-handed.
It has three modes, low-mid-high, no memory. And a crisp tailswitch.
I consider the build quality quite good. Nothing is rattling or loose. Finish is smooth, no raw edges. It looks as if some serious thinking was done before it went into production. The design has some drawbacks, however.
The head is connected to the pill, as is the body/tailcap on the other side. The 12mm ledboard is pressed down by the TIR + loose led centering ring. The 14mm driver has a very slim retainer ring. The switch also has a retainer ring, from the outside. Both with curved indentation, no holes or notches.
My problem was that you can’t predict to what part the driver will stick when opening the light: head or body.
I glued the led centering ring to the led board and the head assembly to the driver (I made some notches in).
Not crazy-glue, however. And I replaced the one-heartbeat-from-DOA XP-G by an XP-G3 (Fasttech € 1.49).
And it is my favourite ever since.

Thanks Henk4U2.
Sounds like it is relatively easy to change the driver.
Still hope to see a few pics of a disassembled light (purely out of interest). Would be nice to see how the light is constructed.
If there are no detail pictures out when my light arrives i will try to make some.

I ordered twoEnogear Stainless Steel AA/14500 Flashlights on July 11th and received three in the mail today (Aug 27th). They came in two separate shipping envelopes. The first envelope contained two SS AA/14500 flashlights - one in each tint. This was my actual order, and it was sent from Shenzhen, China. The second envelop contained another SS AA/14500 in the neutral white tint. This one was sent from Yuen Long, Hong Kong and marked as a gift on the customs declaration.
I am not sure why Jackie sent me a free flashlight, but I am grateful. I wrote him an email and thanked him. These are impressive flashlights and I will cherish them forever.
But I want to know the limits of these flashlights so I asked him to clarify if it would be safe to run them with 14500 batteries. I gave him the link to this thread and told him that there was some discussion about 14500 batteries damaging the SS AA/14500 flashlight. If he responds, I will edit this post.
Jacky takes a very long time to respond but he is legit and also gave me a free 14500 usb recharge version to test when my original AA version failed due to using 14500. The replacement AA version doesn’t work with 14500 so you actually don’t have to worry about 14500 frying the driver. In appreciation I actually bought 3 Fireflies ROT66 from him.

I emailed him about the same thing about 6 months ago when I bought mine. He replied that it was 14500 safe.

What was your original AA version? Was it the SS AA/14500 flashlight? Was it advertised to work with 14500 batteries? Thanks
Could you provide a link to the Firefly ROT66? I am also looking at sending Jackie some more business if I can find something suitable. Thanks again!
Wow I’m surprised you haven’t heard of the ROT66. It’s been the most talked about light on BLF in the past month. It is the first and last light to use the Nichia 219B 9080 emitter and the driver is designed by Lexel.
My original Enogear SS AA/14500. I guess after several failed drivers, they decided to get rid of 14500 support altogether and instead release a USB rechargeable 14500 version.
I'm more of an under $20 (1x) AA/14500 flashlight kind-of-guy, so the Fireflies ROT66 didn't get past my initial perusal on BLF. But since you went to the trouble to send me links, I will check it out closer. The technology does seem interesting.
So, I decided to just buy additional SS AA/14500 flashlights (in neutral white) from Jackie, and most likely will gift them. BTW, the SS AA/14500 product page gives the impression that this flashlight fully supports 14500 batteries. Where did you get info to the contrary? Thanks!
Ordered Enogear Stainless Steel AA & TC8 Titanium Alloy CREE XPG3 650 Lumens flashlight yesterday. Going by comments above, I’m going to try to forget about it and get a nice Xmas present.

Got an email from Jackie Zhang (at enogear@hotmail.com) today stating that the above Aug 28th order was shipped today, Aug 30. It was sent via Hong Kong mail post with tracking. I believe that tracking is included with orders over $20 USD. The stated ETA is 15 - 30 days. I will try to post the actual arrival date.
So far Jackie has not replied to my question about the safety of using 14500 batteries with the SS AA/14500. But, given recent good feedback from this thread, I started running a 14500 in a NW tint model - with no problems so far. The 14500 battery provides a significant improvement in output. Of course, the flashlight gets warm in High. But I haven't run it long enough in this mode to see if it really gets hot, or if there is an automatic step down to Medium.
Anyone have beam comparison shots between the NW & CW models? I usually prefer NW, but not if it’s too warm looking. Definitely going to order one of these, just need to decide on the tint.
My Enogear SS AA/14500 in NW is significantly warmer than my Sofirn SF14 which advertises a color temperature of 5350 - 5700 K. My guess is that the NW tint is in the vicinity of 4000K. But it is very easy on the eyes, and is pleasant and soothing to look at.
Thanks for the beam shots, that helps a lot with my decision. The NW Enogear looks very similar to my OTR M3 in NW, which is supposedly 3800-4000K, and is just a little too warm for me. Think I’ll go with the CW version of the SS Enogear.
The two NW I tried looks about 4000k to me but it has no yellow unlike what you see in that beamshot above. The tint is about 5D, which to me is a major selling point because I like NW without any yellow or green. You should give it a try it is very beautiful. I like it more than the CW version that I have.

The Enogear AA/14500 flashlight, IMHO, is unique and a true collectible - and truly not that expensive for what you get. The only downside may be the wait. My first order took 48 days. But I have actually waited longer (i.e., 51 days) for goods purchased from BangGood.

Yes its about a 5D. I took a comparing picture.

It is odd that some do and some don’t. I asked in email and was told 14500 works. This was back a few months ago.

I can confirm mine also working with 14500. Tested with Olight battery.

I have had both types for more than 6 months and have only used 14500’s in them the whole time without any problems.
How did you color these Enogear flashlights like this? Thanks.
Sorry just bad lighting

The following Enogear SS AA/14500 beam shots are courtesy of taschenlampen-forum.de/. They have a very nice beam shot collection.
My NW is on the warm side.
