So the SP70 performance is very similar to a Q8 ? you must really like the form factor then to want one (or be prepared to go through the trouble of slice/dice the led).
Yea i prefer this style over the Q8 feels more ergonomic to me. I think we will see more throw than the Q8 maybe double once we test it. Plus out of the box the SP70 can hit 7000+ lumens without any further mods.
As I noticed before, many people like the classic flashlight shape for various reasons. My remark is because the SP70 is considerably bigger than a Q8 while the performance increase is less than the size increase, and the battery capacity is less too.
But you are right that with both lights stock, the SP70 likely has 1.4 times more output, and I guess from the head size and better finning that the maximum sustainable output is a bit higher too. This all counts for something.
Still, I suspect that a preference for the form factor has a lot to do with wanting the SP70.

My Sofirn Q8 gets no use. It’s just too bulky. The beam is a bit too narrow, as well.
That’s why I think the BLF Q8 has a much more useful beam. Warmer and floodier.
Both the Sofirn and Airpro have the cooler spotlight beams that are… meh.
That’s why if you want/need a thrower, get a dedicated thrower (L2, SP70, etc.). Don’t think Q8s were designed as throwers. Might be wrong, but…
The stock BLF Q8 has a throw-cd/output-lm ratio of 13, that makes it not a thrower. A common up-to-date C8 with XP-L Hi does 100, six times better (the first GT is 500 even). But with the many super-flooders with multi-TIR’s today, the Q8 is pretty throwy in comparison.
Ground-to-ground distance of flashlight to opposite building (as per Google Maps) is about 120 meters.
I estimate around 150 meters or so diagonal distance (I’m shining upwards from a lower level)

Quickly compared SP70 with L6 ,bigger hotspot than L6 and noticeably brighter.
That should not be the case. A bigger reflector with the same size emitter means a slightly smaller hot spot. Maybe you are referring to the corona? If your looking at it through a camera you have to use very low output levels to see the true hot spot size.
EDIT, are you comparing it to the new L6 that has the SMO reflector? That model might have a slightly smaller hotspot.

Definitely a larger hotspot,tried it on internal wall at 2 meters ,external wall at 10 meters and at bush across the park approx 150 meters.A rough guess about 20% larger.Sorry can’t post pics as I don’t use hosting sites.
Edit, old L6 unmodded with OP reflector.
This is in line with the Dale’s finding that the reflector is not parabolic on the schematic…
I’m not sure about that. A noticably bigger hot spot would mean much lower throw numbers, but our throw numbers are still high. I guess we’ll find out later.

You have a high powered L6 with an SMO reflector, right?
You know it can only hit about 172kcd, right?
Why would you expect 300kcd by going from a 63mm SMO reflector to a 73mm(?) OP reflector? I would not expect that big of a jump. Am I not understanding how significant a small bump in reflector diameter can be?
If the hot spot was visably larger than an L6 like gehrmo said (20%) it would indicate a much wider beam angle. You would then expect probably under 100kcd. Maybe under 60kcd. We are not seeing those crazy low numbers.
We are not seeing perfectly optimized numbers either because we know the reflector depth as a bit short for the diameter.
I would much rather wait till I can compare the lights side by side and take measurements. I prefer that to speculating.

I plan to compare it to my hotrodded L6 with SMO reflector. We will see if a bigger textured reflector beats a smaller SMO reflector.

Yes, it’s supposed to have Advanced Thermal Regulation. It’s something that Sofirn designed in the UI. I don’t know the details on it.

Quickly compared SP70 with L6 ,bigger hotspot than L6 and noticeably brighter.
According to the manual the SP70 will reduce its output once the driver‘s temperature exceeds 60°C. So, you should be safe running it on turbo.
