the size of the MCPCB that fits in an RRT-01 is also being discussed here:
you may find it informative
Not sure what you mean by “standard size”
to the best of my understanding the RRT-01 needs an MCPCB of 12mm, but Im not sure… Im not well versed in those details, yet
RRT01 pill OEM or modified can’t take anything larger than 13mm. There’s just no more space. A single E21A won’t survive more than few seconds. The current is almost 3A. I wanted to make a dedicated 12mm quadtrix E17A for RRT01 but decided not to further make it due to several limiting factors. I am working on it, to make it more universal.
As for the moment, I’ll hold anything about RRT01 modification. I just can’t take the driver as is. In my opinion a new driver is a must for this RRT01. I found a good ready to use IC capable of buck, buck-boost, or boost ideal for this RRT01. We’ll see if I have the potential to make an LED driver.
If there are still enough interest for the aluminum pill we can start an interest list for a GB. So far the estimated price I can give for an aluminum pill (with or without MCPCB mounting holes) is $17/pc. It doesn’t come with the extra O-ring, I made an extra O-ring groove behind the rotary dial to make it completely waterproof.
Sorry, post edited. I meant some lenses has convex center lens. Yes, those with stock Cree XPL HI. With all TIR lenses, the halo ring disappeared.
Frosted creates more spill than pebbled. Convex center creates tighter more confined beam.
