If I remember from the article, antibody tests didn’t pick up what the bone marrow test did so hopefully there is long range protection, barring mutations that get traction.
I have also read that people who had covid can get it again, and that they have a strong antibody response to being vaccinated
bottom line seems to be that the vaccine is important, including for people who had covid
other reading indicates a need for a booster shot after 6-12 months
however, due to the shortage of vaccines worldwide, there is a belief that before USA people get boosters, vaccines should be prioritized for people who have not been vaccinated, both in USA and worldwide… Because travel will continue to spread corona from unvaccinated people.
in any case, I do hope we continue to see increasing numbers of people being vaccinated in USA, and worldwide.
Presently 44% of the USA population has been vaccinated.
Where I live, people are now going grocery shopping without masks. this is in response to CDC guidance that vaccinated individuals dont need to wear masks… I still wear my mask at the grocery store…
otoh, I met yesterday with a group of Six people, without masks. We are all vaccinated, and we sat outside and shared food and conversation.
It does feel like corona is starting to be less of a concern. I hope we dont see a spike in infections.
as you can see, compared to the number of new cases, 9% die…
this is not good news
disclaimer, I suspect this discussion is out of bounds… goes beyond personal experience… sooo… I suggest people continue to understand that corona is not over, and vaccination is essential… that is My Personal Opinion
Things are looking good here. No masks and the daily map showing north east Pa new infections is in the single digits per county most days. Personally I have put the whole thing out of mind for the most part. Feels good to get back to normal.
You need to compare deaths to new cases two to six weeks ago. Comparing today’s deaths against today’s cases makes no sense, people don’t die the same day they test positive, unless you only test people in the morgue. Comparing accumulated deaths to accumulated cases also gives incorrect results in countries having recent large increases or decreases in cases.
Anyway “only” 637 deaths is a big improvement over the US peak, but you need to watch out for the delta (aka Indian) variant. The gamma (aka Manaus) and lambda variants are still causing a lot of trouble in Latin America, the delta variant apparently spreads even faster.
A relative in their 30’s caught Covid recently, but fortunately the symptoms were mild. Age is a large factor but I believe the first vaccine dose (Sinovac) helped even if it didn’t fully prevent the infection. The ones you have in the US by most accounts are more effective.
Dunno about sore throats, but my gf started coming down with new things like dizzy spells and headaches after getting her shots. Has me more than a little concerned.
Don’t recall which “brand” (pfizer, moderna, whatever) shots she got.
Biontech/Pfizer. Guess I’m lucky to only have this small problem.
And no sore arm, except for a day. The doc told me to absolutely relax it, otherwise it would hurt. She were mostly right, pain lasted much longer the last time. Couple of days.
For the original strain, one dose of Pfizer or Astrazenica after 6 or so weeks already gives close to 90% protection, so the delta variant is a rather different case.
personal experience and mindset for me in USA, today…
less than 50% of the people at the grocery store are wearing masks. Even staff is without masks.
most people I meet are vaccinated, but not all. There is no way to know if a person with no mask, is vaccinated, or they think masks dont matter
I am very concerned that so many people choose to believe a man that lied to us about masks, corona, the election, and most other things including deals with Russia.
Im very worried about the number of people who are willing to do violence, to support their right to believe those lies. I feel it is a very dangerous time in USA, politically.
Police here are on edge. They have shot and killed 2 people within a mile of my house this week. Tensions are high, and more civilians are carrying guns for defense, in response to more gun crime. A volatile combination.
I do hope our control of the epidemic continues to reduce the risk. Im still wearing my mask at the grocery store. I fear a resurgence of infections as a result of reopening, scheduled for July 1st here.
Just in time to allow people to party maskless on the 4th.
I hope we survive the epidemic, and the political divisions, here in USA.
