Thanks! Iām tempted to get another SP36 in 2700k or 4000k too but weāll see. I donāt have anything bad to really say about any of the lights Iāve gotten so far. Zebralight could be cheaper I guess. But when you hold them in your hand you can feel the texture of your spent money!
Thanks! The TN40S is a beast. If you can find one I definitely recommend it. I love that the stepdown is temperature controlled because in the winter I can run it on turbo for quite a while if I choose. (Probably till I run out of battery but I have never tested it.)
I was thinking about the D18 but the emitters I wanted donāt seem to be offered right now.
Sofirn is a great bang-for-buck brand. My younger brother has one of their headlamps and one of their 18650 edc lights. I think if you have a hard-use case (shop work etc) that they really shine in that application. The price is low enough not to get too sad if one gets ruined or lost, but they have good power and features. I hear Convoy is similarly placed but I havenāt gotten one yet.
Yea it looks like a BEAST but I decided to buy a few more lights for my EDC rotation first. Currently the SC64C LE is permanently in my pocket. Thatās fine (great even) but Iād like to spice things up a bit with some different designs and features. The brass D4V2 is too heavy to carry imo.
Have you seen the Acebeam K75 (think that is their SBT90.2 model) I was debating whether or not that might be more practical than the GT94
After ditching Reddit i was in no hurry to get involved with another forum. But it looks like BLF is one of the good ones.
Nice!
I got both the TN42 and TN40S on discount from Thrunite directly. I paid $113 for the TN42 and $140 for the TN40s. So not too bad. Have you done an emitter swap on the TN42? I often think that the host could handle something more robust. Anduril sounds kinda niceā¦I think Thruniteās Medium and Low levels are too low on some of their lights. Is there a guide for the Anduril mod somewhere?
Did you replace your Catapult V6 with anything in particular? I like the size to performance ratio on that one. Medium on it is being a few hundred lumens too dim is my only real complaint.
Thanks too to everyone who said, āWelcomeā but who I didnāt respond to yet individually!
Welcome to the BLF party CollectEverything!
Thanks for stopping by, CollectEverything!
I've heard that Reddit can be kinda toxic.
Luckily, BLF is usually non-toxic.
Welcome to BLF
My Acebeam K75 is more portable than the MF05/MT90 Plus. Bigger = more performance, smaller is more portability.
I like lots of small lights, lots of medium-size lights, and lots of very very big lights. It takes all sizes and shapes to make a collection.
Welcome! Iām a ānewbieā to the forum myself, though Iāve lurked in the past and lately have been guilty of reading through around a 40 page thread. (Yes, Iām sick)
I also have the Thrunite Catapult V6, very nice little thrower. Mineās the 5000k version though, I donāt really like the warm beams on flashlights. I do have some warm beam lights, but theyāre adjustable and used for paint correction purposes, not for fun. (Although I do have fun when I polish cars).
Iāve actually been toying with the idea lately of getting the Nitecore TM39. It doesnāt match the peak throw of the K75 BUT the modes are more sustainable than the Acebeamās (the stepdown is not as harsh/fast) so the light is a bit more usable. Plus, itās a lot more aesthetically pleasing, not as massive, more balanced and the UI takes the cake for me. Only thing holding me back on getting that light is that itās been quite a while since they released it, and I fear I might get it and then a āGTā version will come out or a revision of it will come out anyway and then Iāll be really salty. Anybody know if there is a successor to the SBT90.2 or if a V3 is coming out any time soon? Iāve searched online but havenāt really found any info on this or on Nitecore possibly working on an updated version of the TM39. I think if they used 21700ās for their power supply instead of 18650ās, sure the light would be a bit chunkier and longer, but theyād increase performance/runtime SO MUCH that I think itād be worth it. Idk, Iāll probably just pull the trigger anyway cuz Iām feeling the need to hold something POWERFUL, and the massive BLF lights arenāt it for me. I love performance but I also give a lot of importance to form factor and aesthetics.
Mine is still running the stock XHP35 HI. I have several other throwers but occasionally consider a swap for the TN42. Have you seen the TN42 V2 with the SBT90.2? Itās $300 but Amazon currently has a coupon for $69 off.
I bought the drivers from Lexel, a longtime BLF member with extensive driver building knowledge. He designed lots of different drivers for upgrading existing lights and contributed to driver design of production lights, too. Unfortunately he is MIA, and weāre all hoping he will come back to BLF sometime.
There may be other options, such as from Texas_Ace, another well-respected member. See this thread for more details.
I sold it because I have several other throwers of similar size with similar performance. I really like the size and look, but just didnāt end up using it. Sometimes I think about buying another one, but only if I could swap the driver to run AndĆŗril.
If youāre looking for additions to your collection, perhaps you need a small or medium thrower with an OSRAM emitter.
The Convoy C8+ is an excellent choice and amazing value. Simon offers great customer service and Convoys are well-respected. Hereās a C8+ listing at the official Convoy store on AliExpress to get you started.
I went with the 4-mode driver because there is no visible PWM and no extra blinky modes, just four well-spaced modes. Simon even installed a forward-clicky switch for me at no extra charge.
I have a few different OSRAM throwers with white emitters, but the colored versions look super fun.
That body has to be one of the most bought/used/modded lights in existence. Iāve never had one myself but have seen it mentioned everywhere. Where did you sell your Catapult V6 btw? e-bay or here in the forum? Asking in case I ever wanna sell any of my lights.
I just checked my history, and Iāve sold 27 lights and bought a dozen or more here on BLF without a problem. :+1:
Iāve bought a handful of lights on r/flashlight without issue, but Iāve never listed any for sale there.
I buy and sell using PayPal, and have conducted both āgoods & servicesā and āfriends & familyā transactions in each direction. It seems common to ask the buyer to pay the ~3% PayPal fee if they prefer a āgoods & servicesā transaction so theyāre covered by PayPalās ābuyer protectionā program.
Ooooh, thanks for the info bro, much appreciated.
The more the merrier.
Welcome to BLF ...
Have you seen the TN42 V2 with the SBT90.2?
Yep! I am on the Thrunite mailing list. It seems great in theory but I wasnāt happy about having to modify the battery carrier (even slightly) in order for it to take normal 21700s and the stepdown is so fast and so drastic on Turbo. I might just spend a bit more and get the one of the Gigathrowers later on, weāll see.

That is too bad. Always sad when someone goes MIA that you knew online and you have no way of reaching out. Hopefully they are doing well.
I sold it because I have several other throwers of similar size with similar performance.
Which is your favorite of those? Do you have the Noctigon K1?

Iāve looked at the C8 a few times and havenāt picked on up mainly because I wasnāt sure if Iād reach for it over the Catapult V6. I do plan to get an Osram light eventually though and I definitely need a few Convoys for my collection. I dig that pineapple-grenade-looking M3 and people seem to love their S2+s.
