KInda a cross between the old retro lights & the new high tech throwers. Kinda a middle range light. Not a EDC, I guess you could think of it as a intermediate size search light.
MySR51 always tests at about 52K which is very good for an OP reflector. The lumens tends to fall a little short of the listed 900 lumens, I think closer to 850 otf if I remember correctly. Along with the throw, it also has the nicest and widest flood of anything in its class that we own, such as the M3C4, 7G5, HD2010, etc.
It’s an awesome light. The ONLY issue I find with it is a lack of a true low. Would have been nice to have a level under 100 lumens. But it is a SR - search and rescue - marketed light, so I new that when I bought it.
The low isn’t very low ar all. But a firefly mode on a search light prolly wouldnt be recevied well… Lol. I can see the SR51 taking its place as one of my all time favorites.
Great minds think alike. TBH, I wouldn’t want ti mess thebeam profile up. I imagine it could be turned into a total beast. But I wont sacrifice the beam. If I need some longer & brighter? I’ll just reach in the curio.
I believe if you just changed it to an XM-L2 U2 emitter and did nothing else the beam profile wouldn’t change. I still do not blame you for keeping it stock. The Olight SR51 is a classic and a standard for quality lights.
Alas, I have one last light to purchase Friday. Then I’m gonna have to take a hiatus. Mrs D is walking around here looking like a angry Pitbull chewing on hot pine tar. Between trades & purchases I’ve gotten 10 new lights in the last 2 weeks… Time to take a break, in the interest of personal safety.
+1 LOL Ya know, in hindsight I should’ve put more thought into buying that curio. It’s far too accessible to her. The major problem is? She likes them & recognizes them. Unlike a wife who could care less. She can pick out the new ones with little to no difficulty. So their will be no ‘jedi mind tricking’ her…
My brothers SR51 is on the warmish side of CW too. When we are doing beamshots I always recognize it by the tint before he says which one he is shining. Kind of a pleasant tint actually in my opinion anyway.
