There are some HD2010s that come with the original EAST-092 driver, which was the ā€œgoodā€ DD driver.

Nowadays, if you get an HD2010, you sometimes get one with one of the ā€œgoodā€ EAST-092 drivers, and sometimes not. I had to try several times, from Tmart, before I got one with a ā€œgoodā€ EAST-092 driver.

I donā€™t know if anywhere sells HD2010s with guaranteed ā€œgoodā€ EAST-092 drivers.

Fasttech has an EAST-092 driver on their website:

That driver has gone in and out of stock, now ā€œDiscontinuedā€, because FT hasnā€™t been able to source the ā€œgoodā€ driver.

Here's my vob C8/UF-T20 copper pill pics:

I did not see any measurable improvement in lumens or throw from the upgrade, over a brass C8 pill with copper inserts, but the host seemed to heat up quicker, so appears to pull the heat away from the LED quicker. This was at 3.85A - maybe there is noticable improvement at higher amps.

what are you using to secure the star to the pill?

On that pill, all I used was AS5 - nothing was used to lock it into place. If I was to do this today, I'd look into drill+tap the pill, secure with screws - it's a bit of work to center and insure clearance for the screw heads, but I like the idea the star can't inadvertently twist and cut wires, and of course has a better thermal bond connection. I try to eliminate sharp edges around those wire holes by filing/sanding just in case.

Thanks for running these, wow what a quick sale. Iā€™m looking forward to pushing one these with a direct drive. It looks like you could get rid of about 20-30 more just about as quick.

Is there any benefit to soldering the sinkpad to the pill over using Arctic Silver?

Of course there is. Its a better thermal transfer. Better by how much in real life.. cant say, not that much. But if you can do it easily, just go ahead.
