I tried to read as many sticky posts as my brain could handle on this topic, but a few required an electrical degree and the others are ~4 years old so I figured this would be the easiest way to get a straight forward answer. I keep going through AA batteries like water and each time I stand at the battery depot at the store I contemplate buying some of those rechargeable energizer batteries, but don’t because I know there has to be a better deal out there.
So, what are a few rechargeable AA’s I can buy that are reasonably priced and will kick the Energizer bunny’s a$$?
I’m more concerned with them lasting a long time between charges rather than having max output (the things they will go in are low load)
Eneloops are quite popular here, but “duraloops” (duracell stay charged) can be found locally at most stores and are supposed to be almost as good.
Can’t go wrong either way
Eneloop is all you need to know. Just make sure you are buying the ones you think you are buying, as some unscrupulous vendors try to pawn off first generation cells as the very latest.
duracell precharged MADE IN JAPAN are eneloops.
those are 2000mah
the newer 2400 precharged are rumored to be eneloop xx.
hard to find eneloop at local retail but the duracell version is usually easy to find around here at least.
ChibiM, Only way to go. I saw he was running a 8 pack PRO special for I think $33. Also, Snag a Glamour pack too if you can. Super neat and rare. If you have kids or wife they will love the look of them too. (Justification of purchasing more)
If you have a wife and kids the disney or snazzy eneloops might help keep them from getting tossed in the trash like duraloops do .having a battery that doesn't look like an alkaline can be handy .
In the states the answer is eneloop duraloop aldi or ikea low self discharge
+1 on Eneloops. I got 2nd generation off Amazon a few months ago, that Panasonic's Eneloop division "claims" are really 3rd generation eneloops with 2nd generation wrapper.
If I had do it over though, I would just order some 4th generation Eneloop Pro's from chibiM, and also some disney minnie mouse eneloops too specifically for my fiancee's electronics.
From what Ive read you want an LSD (low self discharge) battery like Eneloops. The Energizers might be OK too, depending on how long they sit. Might have more capacity. LSD batteries have less capacity, apparently due to a larger separator, which makes them last longer on the shelf.
The new Eneloops are supposed to have something like70% power after 5years.
