In Japan we just can`t buy any eneloop packs without the eneloop (Panasonic) text facing towards you.
I guess that has rubbed off on me, because when I place eneloops in my charger, I always feel compelled turn them all slightly so the logo is showing. Or maybe that’s just my OCD.
I’m new to Eneloops… I just bougth a first series of 4th gen at nkon.
So far I love them, and also the design of the standard white ones.
While browsing this topic I saw pictures of the different special editions that where issued in the last years.
I would like to know where I can order special editions to ship to Europe. I saw the Tropical ones at nkon.nl.
I’m not fond of buying these off eBay…
I’m not sure if these are still available somewhere, but I would love to get a set of AA uomo tones!
I stopped buying eneloops off ebay or chinese websites once I saw a reputable member was offering them here. (ChibiM) I prefer to have to pay a bit more (shipping to my country is expensive) and have the peace of mind of having genuine cells right out of Japan!
Maybe he can get them for you larry. And btw, bienvenu!
I’ve got a C-9000 and hundreds of eneloops from a number of years but never knew the production info. This will help for longer trips when I want to take the fresher cells with me. Such a pain when the MAHA is only a 4 cell charger and I use so many. Many Thanks for the info.
I’m tempted to buy the Turnigy but I’m hesitating.

Even considering the fact that the Turnigy batteries have 20% more capacity?

I’m no Eneloop expert, but they are low discharge batteries. They keep their charge year after year. Normal NiMh batteries don’t, they drain heavily over time by themselves. I don’t know anything about those Turnigy batteries, I never heard of them, but I don’t think they compare with the knowledge and research of Panasonic.

The Turnigys are also LSD, but they dont hold up to the Eneloops in current delivery IIRC. Advice I was given by the members here some time ago was to just skip the Turnigy and go with Eneloops.

Hi, new forum member here. I have some weirdness with some eneloops I just bought and I'm hoping this is the place to get some answers.
I bought some eneloops off a guy on ebay and they just arrived. I was specifically looking for HR-3UTGB 3rd gen batteries. He advertised he had bulk eneloops, out of package, and he identified them with the number SEC-HR-3UTGB-8B, which I'm fairly certain is the correct number for an 8-pack of 3rd gen batteries. Before I bought them, I asked the seller for a date code from the batteries and (after explaining to him how to read the codes) he told me they were 1 3 11UD, which should be November of 2013. Good enough, those should be some pretty new cells.
What arrived today, on the other hand, is odd. Rather than loose bulk pack cells, he sent me an SEC-HR3U16N 16-pack that he'd cut in half to fit in the envelope. He also cut out about 1" of cardboard down the center so I'm not sure if the two halves are actually from the same package. The blister covers over both halves are still sealed, and I looked at the glue joints up close with a loupe and could see from the dots in the offset printing that the blister covers had not been removed and glued back down, so it doesn't appear that he swapped batteries into a different package.
Looking at the cells through the blister covers I can see that date codes on 4 of them. 3 are 1 3 11UD and 1 is 1 3 03Y0. Ok, they're all from 2013, so far so good. On the back, the right side of the package says "SANYO eneloop" up in the upper right hand corner, and below it is clearly the words "Recharge 1800x" and "Holds charge up to 5 years". That's also right for 3rd gen cells.
The back of the left half of the package doesn't have any numbers, but it had a chart using colored in batteries showing 90% after 1 year, 80% after 3 years, and 70% after 5 years. Again, consistent with 3rd gen. This side of the package, on the other hand, says "Panasonic Energy Corporation of America, Columbus, GA. 31907" in the lower left corner of the package. In the lower right hand corner of the same side is part of the words "Distributed by/dist..." and below that "Panasonic Canada".
Was there a point in time where the packages had both the Sanyo and Panasonic names on them during the changeover?
But here's the weirdest part: The individual cells are marked as HR-3UTGA, at least the 4 that I can see through the clear blister. The cells from both halves of the package are marked with that number. Now that's the number for the 2nd gen cells!
That doesn't make sense! According to the wiki article, 3rd gen batteries started being made in November of 2011. Is there any reason 2nd gen cells would still be being manufactured in late 2013? And be put in packages that said they were 1800x recharge cells with 70% 5-year retention? Which *should* make them 3UTGB 3rd gen cells?
I have looked the batteries over very carefully, and I can't spot any of the usual signs of forgeries. These look like genuine cells, but the date code/model number/package-claim combination doesn't make any sense.
The package I got looks just like the one pictured in this amazon sale:
Except the middle 1" or so down the middle of the package was cut off and discarded before he mailed them.
Anyone have any ideas? Are these really good fakes, or did sanyo/panasonic use up some old labels with the old model number printed on them. Did they fill a newer package meant for 3rd gen cells with an old stock of 2nd gen cells? (That still doesn't explain the date codes.)
I thought the date codes were stamped on when the batteries were made, on the same assembly line. Is it possible some old 2nd gen cells sat somewhere for 2 or 3 years and *then* had a date code stamped on? That doesn't seem likely.
Does this forum support photo uploads? I can send a couple of pics showing what I have if anyone's interested.
My English isn’t perfect but I’m trying to improve it. If you see something that doesn’t sound right or is just plain wrong, please feel free to point it out!
That was the whole point of why I was asking the question.
I was asking if they look like real eneloops in the images so maybe someone that owns them can compare and confirm it or not.
But thanks for your helpful/informative post.
Do you always trust the pictures when shopping on the internets? What’s stopping DX from copying the pictures of Panasonic’s site? I for one would stay away from them.

Definitely the best source for a great number of us when it comes to Eneloops. I have bought from ChibiM now 3 times and would not hesitate in the future. His prices are always cheaper than I can find locally in our little republic of Canuckistan and you know your getting the newest generation compared to a number of places around here still selling old gen2 stock.
As for DX’s listings… well after that last Samsung fake 3200mah battery adventure I wouldn’t trust them or touch them with a ten foot pole. All the pics/info was for the correct/legit batteries and what people got (or have yet to receive in my case) was anything but….

I learned about this shop here on BLF, and they come well recommended. I bought some Eneloops from them (Tropical as they’re European market only) and had no problems at all.

Comparison.
The flash on my phone was blurring the positive end picture, so I’m trying to illuminate them with a
light and snap the pic at the same time.
Left side… is a “Chibi-M-eloop” that came with Eneloopy.
No, the right side top isn’t whiter; they’re identical, it’s the camera.
“Chibi-M-eloop” on bottom
I think they’re real.
Well, I’ve charged more than my fair share… time to stick them in the LaCrosse and see what happens.
A 1A discharge test should settle the issue. Even higher would be ideal, but you’d need access to a hobby charger or something similar.

But thank you for your welcome!
I also prefer buying from a reputable member. On eBay you often don’t know what you buy.
I’ll try to contact ChibiM soon!

New Panasonic eneloops made in China.
“Chocolat Colours” (not sure why it doesn’t have E on the end of chocolate) enloops being sold in retail stores in Australia.
I bought these for $14.95 with free delivery and they come with a $10 voucher to spend on my next purchase.
