I love the cc/sc x5-x6 so much that i got the Al versions aswell. $50 i mean come onā¦
Been messing with my tailcaps a bit more today. I think Iām quite satisfied with them now. Here they are, with some trit for comparison:
Thatās 2x 0805-sized orange emitters and a 8.2K resistor in the copper light and 2x 0805-sized blue emitters and a 12K resistor in the stainless light. I also swapped the pinkish boot into the copper. I donāt know if the orange emitters are just less efficient or if the pink boot soaks up more light, but putting the same resistor in each tailcap didnāt look very even to me.
In real life the tailcaps still look brighter than the trit because thereās more lighted surface area, but the intensity of the two is pretty close to my eyes. Iām happy with it like this, but if these lights lived on my bedside table a foot from my head Iād probably go with even lower resistor values. In other words, ymmv.
EDIT: I had a question PMāed to me for some clarity so just to be clear, thatās 1 resistor in each tailcap, a 12K in the stainless and an 8.2K in the copper. Leave the other set of resistor pads empty; you donāt need them to get the second emitter to light up.
Two of my three SS/Cu-sets arrived yesterday and I could cry in elation!
These lights are so power- and beautiful.
Again: Thanks for all your efforts developing such a great light.
My wife laughs at me already, because I always and everywhere carry the small X5 around with me, but my children love it.
Would you please put me on the stand-by list for two more sets of them?
I have some good friends, who knew to appreciate such a nice gift.

This is an idea only toward any future group buy
Yeh, I was thinking only for group-buy participants, who would already have an account ā during the group-only group buy ā who could from the beginning agree that any issues get sorted out here by prearrangement first. That would screen the retailer during the first weeks or month, while itās still a private buy.
Iām looking for a way to openly (here) address āCharlie Testā issues, before it goes to the retailer (as I hear retailers might be overwhelmed and scared off by such attention)
Sort out the sortable problems early among us. Thatās after the sale ā āCharlie Testā results ā which we as a group of buyers could arrange to do among ourselves, since the retailers arenāt going to do that.
Once we know the results, the retailer could get heads-up before the public buy starts, like:
ā āof the 200 group buy lights, twenty of the reflectors had Fredās fingerprint on them, left index finger mostlyā
or
ā āof the 200 group buy lights, one in ten had the tailswitch fall outā
or such possibly useful information.
EDIT ā that āCharlie Testā would be a 100 percent sample of the group-bought lights, far better than the sampling most QC uses
(Remembering
ā QA is to find and fix errors immediately, by the manufacturer, during production;
ā QC is after production, for the wholesaler/seller, to have an idea how many problems users will complain about; and
ā CT is what happens when QC isnāt done.
So Iām suggesting future group buys formally arrange to BE the āCharlie Testā group, as a closed somewhat private thing.
Then the retailer could deal with the issues among the group buy folks ā a fixed ilmited known number ā and have an idea what support would cost to the later public buyers.
Benefit to us ā we donāt scare the retailer, and the retailer gets a very clear idea of problems found (and which ones we canāt fix among ourselves)
āāāāāāāāāāāā-
Once the retailer is selling to the general public, support and detecting parasites is on the retailer.
Anyone who bought without BLF participation, who later comes here, opens a new account, and complains/scams ā wonāt get our support.
Enough, off topic, just tossing the idea toward any future group buy as something to consider when setting up the announcement.
Hey Krono, please put me down for 3 SS/Cu sets, one unboxed, two boxed. thanks
You were lucky. Mine are permanently embedded in the lacquer and not going to come off without some work.
A kit would make a lot of sense, but perhaps it would need to be difficult enough to force a learning curve, sort of self-educational if thatās possible?
That sounds awesome. Iād buy one.
question. I would like to order an Aluminum set of these. What is the situation with the Chinese New Year? If I place an order for a set today, what happens? Is Banggood still doing business. Will the order go in and they then ship at the end of the New Year? Thanks if anyone knows. Just have to have an Aluminum set for practical use!
We donāt really know what their capabilities are during CNY. I would just expect that they would ship after CNY.
Pls put me on standby ONE set SS/Cu. NO BOX. Thnx.
I might order some more of these after everyone on the list gets theirs / after CNY
do we know if BG is going to continue producing these lights? Or is/was this a limited run only?
Able to get out of the muggle mode. Set to factory default, works that way but sometimes has last mode memory, sometimes it doesnāt. Every time I take the battery out and replace it goes back to config mode. When in factory default canāt get it to config mode by 16 taps, only goes to config mode by replacing the battery.

both of mine go back to factory default when the tailcap is unscrewed or battery is replaced
A trivial question for TK on thermal limit-setting, on the aluminum KX5:
Iāve tried several times, starting with a new, recently fully charged cell from RMM (Windyfire IMR 600 mAh)
The light never gets warm enough to be of concern, I think because the brightness is decreasing as the battery drains, so even sitting on the tabletop, checking by handling every few minutes, it gets comfortably warm then starts cooling off.
So I do the full reset, so I donāt end up with a too-low āwarmthā setting.
Is this an oddity, or no surprise?
Put me on stand by please for a non box set please. Thanks
Hi Kronological. please add me to the standby list for 2 more sets, one of each tint. Thanks for all you have done!

Box or no box?

Not doubting you guys but that makes no sense to me. The switches on these lights are mechanical. Clicking them open completely cuts the power. There should be no difference electrically between clicking the switch to its open position or unscrewing the tailcap. Iād love for someone smarter than me to explain whatās going on here.
Noting an oddity ā I have a couple of RadioShack āDeWorldā protected 14500 cells.
Theyāre excessively long, 5.4mm ā and they wonāt work in the KX5.
Thereās one point while screwing the tailcap in where the tail light flickers on and off, but the main emitter does nothing.
When the tailcap is fully screwed down, the tailcap doesnāt light ā and the switch will turn the main emitter on, and after that it stays on til the tailcap is removed.
Now I donāt need to use these overlong cells ā my WindyFire IMR cells (600 mAh, from RMM) are fine. Theyāre 4.9mm long.
Iād, uh, just drained all the WindyFires playing so while they were charging tried the RS/DeWorld cell and noted this oddity.
I think Iāve seen this before ā situations where a light would come on and stay on til the tailcap was taken off ā but donāt recall whatās going on here.
Presumably the springs compressed too far.
Just āin case anyone elseā
