Ahhh - these E01 and E02 models are indeed an oddity. Of course they can do a side power switch - I got a couple of lights like that, but the ones I have and seen are cheap lights, so the quality of the switch suffers and has lots of lossâs from the high resistance of the switch mechanism. Plus these switchâs usually eat up a good chunk of space, so the body is longer than need be.
Itâs probably the overall length of a S2+ shorty, which is also rather long because of the chunky tail power switch. They would have to be long, longer than could be done with a true e-switch, but thatâs the compromise. e-switch lights can be made more compact and no worries about resistance in a mechanical switch â two big reasons why I favor e-switch lights, plus the ability to do a more user friendly UI with advanced features.
So, is it a side clicky switch or an e-switch ?
Also, The step between low and med modes is huge, a was said previously !
I could be intersted by the E02 if the modes are better spaced
They do claim clicky, and since the BLF A6 driver is clicky only, it makes perfect sense that they used a clicky in this light. I doubt seriously that theyâd modify the driver to use e-switch or use a e-switch driver, yet claim to use the BLF A6 driver and clicky switch on the listing.
Itâs probably a clicky design working on the Batt+ side. Again I reiterate â not the best way to go for several reasons. Quality components and simple design is the key, and Iâve only seen awful quality in these type of clicky lights and extra hardware - cheap switch, extra thin wire springs or contacts, etc. Thinkân they may be having issues with this design - unrestricted FET driver combined with this type of switch is usually not a good combo. Maybe/hopefully it will be safe/ok, but unable to achieve high amps without modding.
the samples came in this morning. There is definitely not the BLF A6 driver inside. 4 normal Modes with a huge step from Moon to Low, Doubleklick activates Strobe, Bike Strobe (?) and Beacon. Single Click from off switches the light on to Moon and changes mode. Long press from off activates the last used mode (memory), long press from on switches the light off. I did not find a Config Menu or Battery indicator. The light feels good in the hand, pretty comfortable. I measured via ceiling bounce in comparison to a Skyray King (2000 Lumens) 896 Lumens for the E01 and 904 Lumens for the E02.
I contacted Neal for further info on the used driver. I guess it is a 3A driver.
Can you get the driver out? Does the bezel unscrew? Appears to be threaded â really, really hope itâs not glued. I donât see a retaining ring on the driver, which doesnât look good to me - might be glued in like an SRK. That DL044 on the driver sounds familiar, hhhmmmâŠ. Canât recall where I saw it.
Ohh - can you take body length measurements? Itâs been a mystery - they never posted dimensions. Based on the size of the clips, it looks fairly short, which is good.
