Unless you’re looking for Copper for heat sinks, not gonna find much of that in the sky. Just sayin. And finding triple optics may only be slightly easier than creating your own from scratch depending on final interior head size. I’ll probably be finding all that out on my own, but still…
Triple emitter flashlights at mega power are a nightmare for a manufacturer. Litigation and all that. Interesting though, the concept of manufacturing bursting the safety bubble. It could happen… (not holding my breath or giving away the lathe just yet)
That L2 in the middle is a Safe Queen now, very few lights are. Not to be touched, unless needed! NOT to be sold! Special! Modded with a XHP50 J4 1D (shaved of course) RMM FETDD 5 level driver pulling 9.74 amps, fully potted and heat sinked (special), well it’s the little Beast that could…. L2XHP50 J4 1D on left (shaved) L2XHP50 4300K pulling 8 amps. (dome on) Left.
Kawi, you’ve got some honking hoss lights there man! That TR20 is probably the sleeper in the bunch, I know how thick that tube is, haven’t seen the head on one but I understand with all those fins and a lot of mass it’s a true gem!
The BTU Shocker that’s making the big numbers is also a chunk of aluminum in it’s own right. And get’s hot anyway! Richard talked me into running 3 18650’s in it and I saw 20,000 lumens, but it vaporized the traces on the battery carrier in the few seconds it took me to get that reading. I’ve rebuilt the carrier with copper sheet material of sufficient gauge to take whatever, but I haven’t put it back on the light box with 3 cells again. That’s triple XHP-70’s on a 17mm FET driver Zener modified. I’ve got individual TIR optics NOA61’d into each reflector cup to bring the beam into a good profile with no dark spots. ($30 worth of TIR’s alone!)
Thanks Dale! Got a X60M with XHP70’s in it, kept pushing the driver with resistor changes and it finally poofed! It “WAS” amazing. It’s laying around here in a box in pieces somewhere? Maybe should dig it up and give her another go, 3FETDD-LDO E-switch drivers, :smiling_imp: The Shocker lacks battery supply, great upper end design, piss poor bottom end. The TR20-2 is something else, needs some machine work for a bigger mcpcb though and get rid of the dimple in the middle! I think this one might be thee “Beast” of the single XHP70’s, no?
You guys make me so jealous! I wish I had the tools, knowledge and experience to do these wonderful things. Still I thoroughly enjoy watching what you skilled modders do with these lights. I like my stock L2 but I know it’s capable of so much more. That’s what makes BLF so awesome. Take a cool light to start with and make it into something jaw-dropping. Cheers to Dale, KawiBoy and all you other mad scientists.
I have really liked every Convoy I’ve gotten and the L2 is one of the best yet. So I’m looking forward to the L6 with high anticipation. That said, the S70 is also an impressive light. Simon has his work cut out for him, for sure!
