Astrolux M01

Mine arrived today one each. Quirky at first then used the charge port and about 12 min each light goes from red to green. After a few uses everything works fine. Screw head on all the way for high. Back it out till low. The body is very well built. I have to admit I did laugh when I first saw. I showed it to a number of people at a diner and I think they wanted it. Most were very impressed with the output. I quickly returned to pocket and added to keychain(s). Only time will tell but very impressive so far! Nichia tint has that rose hue as compared to the XP-G2 side by side wall check. Mine were labeled “test.”

I’m also having annoyances with the loose threads. When the light is off, I can get quite a bit of wiggle with the head, much more than my Olight i3S or Thrunite Ti3. If I tighten the head enough to get to low, the wiggle of the head could turn off the light. If I further tighten the head but still in low, the head wiggle doesn’t turn off the light. Fully tightened to high, there’s no head wiggle. I’ll have to get used to doing a “deep twist” so that I’m deep into the low mode and a bump to the head won’t turn off the light. That’s about the main disappointment I have with this light - the head threading.

My other reaction - this is my first 10180 flashlight, and it is so tiny. I had no idea just how small these lights are until I actually held one.

Hopefully you won’t be addiced like me !
Now you see why the 10180 lights are SO much fun.
I get a kick out of showing them as people are amazed at the light output from such a tiny light!
Don’t let loose threads on this light turn you off on the 10180 lights,
the other 10180 lights like CooYoo, Jetbeam, DQG, Blackwater, don’t act like the Astrolux when turning to low.

Right now, what’s holding me back from getting into 10180 flashlights is the lack of battery protection and lack of neutral white options. If they could solve that, my wishlist would grow even longer!

Well, OK……
I buy them for the FUN of it. I carry one with me in my “watch pocket” of my jeans. They have actually been washed a few times…OOPS

I haven’t had any battery issues but then again I usually am “topping” them off regularly.

As far as the battery protection, I don’t see a BIG problem as the batteries are fairly reasonably priced at just over a buck each. The same price as CR123 lithium.
Even if I ruin a few, it’s not big deal. I have some 10180 batteries that are at least 2 or 3 years old and still chugging along.

Now the tint is another thing. There are not a lot of choices in most of them but the DQG line.
I am not a TINT person and am happy with anything but WARM. The Cooler lights just SEEM brighter to me.
As long as they are white I’m good. Can’t stand the greenish tints. My Surefire Titan has a greenish tint and I hate it.

Anyway, enjoy showing off your mini-powerhouse !!!

mrtoolfool: what flashlight do you like more in your collection?
do you find jetbeam to have problems?

Erik,
The Jetbeam Mini-1 is a nice light, it seems to be well made. Honestly I haven’t carried any of those, just played around while testing them.
They make it in Stainless, brass, and titanium.
I’m sure you would be happy with any of the three.
I bought mine from ILLUMINATION SUPPLY.
Here are all three, they ship pretty quick. illuminationsupply.com

I carry either my extra Stainless Cooyoo or Aluminum Blackwater Kite. Sometimes if I really want to go small I’ll pull the DQG Spy out of the collection. LOL

The DQG lights do not have built in chargers like the others. That is why they are a bit smaller.

I’m still waiting for mine, but for those who have received theirs how about a few pics? Maybe a couple of sample size pics against a credit card or DVD or something so we really get an idea of scale?

Missed that, too… but well, ordered - never too many nichias.

thank you mrtoolfool

You are more than welcome !

Here is the Astrolux M01 next to a AA battery, CR123 battery, and the 10180 battery it uses. (Black one)

It’s a little hard to tell but the light is just about the same diameter as the AA battery, just a bit shorter.

BTW, A 10180 battery is the same diameter as a AAA battery.

Guess what all you 10180 fans……

It looks like DQG just came out with a HOBI PLUS……. It has a built in charger. First of the DQG 10180 line to have that feature.

Available in Titanium and 3 choices of tint, it appears. I’ll bet brass won’t be to far behind.

A little pricey at 50.00 in my book, as far as the 10180 lights go, maybe because it’s titanium?

I’m resisting for NOW……but the “force” is strong and I may not be able to hold out forever.
Hopefully it will go on sale !

Here it is.

No word on the copper version yet?

Some pics…

Mine also arrived today :+1:

Two pics for size comparison

Colour tint is quite nice; It´s more on the cooler side compared to the Astrolux A01 and even the Lumintop tool copper also with the Nichia 219B LED (here on the right side; on the left the M01)

That´s the only negative aspect of the M01; It seems all of them has this issue; There is no exact point where low starts; It goes on and out randomly by pressing or knockin on the head by a certain point; In the TLF someone called it “Disco Mode”

But all in all It´s O.K. I can live with this issue

High/low it’s all in the feel. All the way in for high slight turn out for low. Off; keep screwing till off no flicker. So far everyone I have shown likes very much. I am not a fan of onboard chargers but a definate positive with the MO1. I carry both versions and no problems. Nice little light!

Flashlight arrived today - nice tint but unfortunately only one mode.
I tighten it all the way and it’s not enough to engage the micro switch in the head :frowning:

I have a CooYoo quantum and the audible click when going to high is something you can’t miss.

I tried to swap heads and bodies but the titanium of the CooYoo won’t match with the stainless of the Astrolux.

They both share loose threads and flickering behavior when turning on - you need to turn quite a bit to get stable output.
You also need to turn back more than “common” to make sure it’s not turning on in the pocket.

Waiting for Banggood to respond.

I received one of each kind today.

I first tried the cree version and it was really hard to select the low mode without flickering. Also the o-ring was really sticky so turning wasn’t easy. After lubing the o-ring the mode selection worked much better.
The nichia version had much rattle because the pill was loose. After tightening it and lubing the o-ring it was still pretty flickery. But this was because the clicky pad wasn’t soldered flat to the pcb. There was some space between.
After fixing this I’m satisfied with both.

As expected the nichia is a bit dimmer. Even tough I’m not a cool white fan, I have to say I like it more than neutral/warm white in 10180 lights.

Edit: I will receive one of each kind again probably tomorrow. Let’s see what I have to fix there
