I actually picked up a few of these in various sizes & tints recently, but haven’t had a chance to play with them yet. Seems like bare emitters are mostly 12v, at least from what I saw at BG.
I love the one I have and I would recommend it for anyone. It would be great for work, where you wanted to always have a light that could stick to metal objects and gave enough light for close up. It's an even spread of light and I really like it. I also keep one for the car as well. Great because of the magnet.
I don't remember the brand name. It is yellow bodied and came out of Amazon. One of the most popular ones.
EDIT: Cliplight was the brand and it was on Amazon.
I have the Larry 2. The future Mother In Law knows I’m a flashlight geek, so I got it for a present. In all honesty, it’s really not bad, and very practical I suppose. I think anyone who is not a member of this forum would be impressed, and even for us, it is somewhat useful. Of course I worded my thank you much more eloquently. As future Mother In Laws go, I know I could do much worse.
Thanks, nothing beats the dispute system of AliExpress and its even cheaper so I ordered there.
For another topic I was looking at Amazon.de bur yeah all is much more expensive there.
Amazon is like a last resort (for example ordered super lube there)
Came across those COB work lights on GB a few months ago. I am an automotive enthusiast a have many friends in the repair business. Been giving them (Plastic version) away to buddies and family. Got a few Aluminum ones for myself. So far only one casualty, where it got too hot and melted the lens on a plastic version. Buddy asked whats the waranty? I said I would give him a full refund on his free light. He is 5hour drive from me but I will get him another one on my next visit in a couple weeks.
Snap-on sells a similar light for $30, large auto parts chain sells the same $3 light for $15 around here. Another friend said his paint supplier sells them for $9.
Oh yeah I did have a couple tail magnets come out but CA glue took care of that. I run Eneloops in mine and found one left on inside my backpack. Found it Sunday morning & had not moved the pack since Friday. It was still lit after 2+ days. Not Bright but Lit.
Very practical work light for it’s size. Worth the $3
I have a Nebo Boig Magnum Larry I saw at my local Ace hardware but ordered on Amazon. Great work light. Super strong magnet and wide, smooth, floody beam. Rated at 450 lumens and looks at least that bright to the naked eye. My only complaints are the UI (must click through all modes to off) and visible PWM in the lower mode but under the hood its not an issue. I would like to see a good low mode on it for extended emergency lighting.
I have a friend who is a Heating and A/C tech. He said he and the guys he works with all use a light like this for their work. He likes that it will shine into a small space and light it up evenly, without being too bright. He also likes that he can clip it onto the outside of his shirt pocket, so it will light up a small area directly in front of him for working. I tried to give him something brighter and he said it was too bright for the small spaces he works on. My contest light this year is (very loosely) inspired by this style light. But, it won’t be nearly as shirt-pocket friendly.
I got a bunch of the NEBO COB Lights HERE at LIGHT JUNCTION a while back when they were having a super sale.
40 - 50% off best I remember.
Got several for me and a bunch for gifts. I just find they are handy little lights to have laying around. :+1: …. I run em’ on Eneloops of course.
I received my cob lights (from the link in the OP and in Post 5). They are both nice, but I really like the pen light from the OP. It’s better than I expected. The aluminum body is thick and seems strong. I’m impressed with the amount of light this baby puts out. Very even wide flood as expected. The tint and color rendition is great. The light spreads out so wide and evenly, that you don’t have to worry about glare (Like DavidEF’s friends have said).
The magnet on the clip is fairly strong. The tail magnet is pretty weak. I can really see keeping a few of these in my car. Engine problem at night. Stick one on each side of the hood (by the clip magnets) and you got your self a nicely engine bay.
Don’t know what the run time is like yet. Seems like it may not be long with so much output. Will try to see how hot it gets and how long it runs tonight.
I guess this vendor is selling them at such a low price due to the logo. These go for much more everywhere else I have looked. I had a problem with a third item I purchased (not a light). It was the manufacturers fault. The vendor straighten out the matter on the spot for me with just one private message from me. So I ordered 8 more of these pen lights. Some to keep in my cars and a few for my parents who I know will really like them.
Thanks for this thread hank. I will probably pull one apart when I get the next order, but I doubt I mod it. Might put in more powerful tail magnet. Actually, wouldn’t mind a few modes.
