First XM-L TIR Lens Light.

Don’t think there’s been an XM-L TIR off-the-shelf before. See here.

I’m puzzled by the two beam shots. TIR’s can’t zoom AFAIK.

Wow, that looks like a nice light! A quick driver change and I’m sure it would be a great light.

Interesting.
I’ve always liked collimating lenses.
Their usually all hotspot and corona, and they throw.
Someone should make a multi emitter XML combo with them.
The 2 beamshots could be high and mid.

Wow :open_mouth: Lovely design :stuck_out_tongue: And, I’d say, quality on this one is quite high :open_mouth: Who’d be the first one?

x2… every TIR light I have owned or used was a solid all around performer. Surefire E2L / DL, Malkoff modules (the XRE ones) and even the Lowes task force at the lower end of the $ range.

I have this one and I thought it was going to be great, far from it…… waste of money.

UltraFire M3-T60 XM-LT6 5-Mode 1200-Lumen White LED Flashlight - Black (1 x 18650)

What was wrong with it?

That huge TIR optic should give you a dot of light with zero spill. Sounds like a good search light but nothing more.

Just noticed this light is called the “SH-PD32”. Which looks a lot like a Fenix PD32.

I would like to hear more about what you didn’t like about it. Looks interesting.

TIR’s can be designed towards tight throw or slight flood. The beamshots of rikr’s UltraFire M3-T60 look like its designed to be more floody than throw.

Have you seen this image from DX? Pretty good thrower I’d say :open_mouth:

I’m guessing it’s exactly like a reflectored light of those dimensions with slightly less spill and a slightly bigger corona.

That’s what I thought it would be also, just a solid beam with no spill. It is almost a flood light, you can not make out a hot spot 2 feet from the wall. It’s a shame to it’s a great looking light. I really thought this was going to be an awesome thrower……

Some of the Chinese copies of TIR optics I’ve seen are not very good. I have some of the good ones like Carlco and other good mfgs, but the chinese ones I bought were junk. They are made of something other than polycarbonate or at least a very poor quality polycarbonate. They seemed to be a little cloudy, some black specs and sinks in them. The beam was not smooth like the carlco and they weren’t near as bright, with the same led, which makes me think the light isn’t getting out, due to the inferior material.

I am sure not all are that way, but the 20mm ones I bought were junk.

Its a big mis-conception that I see often on both forums that a TIR by default is going to be a tight thrower. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Why do you say that? I have a Hugsby P2 with TIR and it’s a hell of a thrower…….

in many cases i agree with you, a quality TIR optic will in most cases cost several times the flashlight. I
don’t think Chinese manufacturers are willing to distance themselves price wise. A quality made TIR thrower is
going to be much better in performance.than whats currently available .

Thats good to know I always thought they were all the same. There are a lot of ’fake” (or st least questionable) TIRs out there…

questionable:

I got a 26mm one from led supply and I put it in my pentagonlight and was less than impressed. The beam was odd and visibly staged like a zoomie with the die image in the center of the hotspot.I abandoned the idea after trying adjustments,so if it works for you cool.Could be I just got a crappy one.

Can somebody explain to me what a TIR lens is? I have no clue…

thanks
