I am a big fan of the 1C tint for my lights and though I have tried several tints over the years like 0D, 1A, 1B, 2T I just installed a 2B tint XP-G2 and I absolutely love the 2B color! I think I am going to update my 1C tint lights to the 2B tint.
Thanks for the graph. I wish I would of seen something like this a long time ago. I had a bunch of my lights modded to 4c, which I really enjoy, but I think I would rather have a more rose tint myself, perhaps 4a.
Speaking of tints, is there a comprehensive shopping site that allows you to choose LED’s with a variety of tints? With cheap sites like DX, it’s a guessing game. (Not to mention the bin too.)
Also, it would be great to have a wall shot collection of the top 5 tints.
I like the cooler colors because to me the “cool white” is the distinguishing factor of an LED compared to an incan light. also, cool white has a higher lumen output than NWs, and i like sheer output. I haven’t been sucked into the high CRI world yet, but I own a NW bc40, my first high power light actually, and the color rendition is amazing compared to cooler colors. but still i usually choose CW if there is a choice or around 5-6k
4 tints are nice for illuminating foliage and examining specific things. I think 2-3 is best all around since you sometimes still need contrast for spotting. 2 tints are basically impossible to find.
2A-4D covers my favorites in the cool and neutral ranges. Unfortunately I’ve actually only tried 2D and 4D, rawr. REALLY would like to try 3D (I bash 3C for its ubiquity, but it really does please when well-driven).
I really like 6A2 and 7C1 from experience. Cool, neutral, and warm obviously fulfill their niches but any tint I like is great for general use.
Since we are discussing tints, has anyone else noticed the tint charts with contradictory BB loci floating around? e.g., Cree’s binning & labeling is different than the one on FlashlightWiki. Sup with that?
Forgive me if I’m noob but how do u guys figure out your tint specs? Besides printing them down and eye-balling them? Or verifing that you have the correct bin LED?
