the color looks good to me, like someone baked it and did a better job than i did baking mine.
is it a POS?
thanks.

I picked up a couple of these about a month back: http://www.meritline.com/showproduct.aspx?ProductID=86910&SEName=cree-1000-lumen-memory-white-led-flashlight

Personally I really like them for flood. They are not super throwers though, which is a shame.

It looks like the SK98 which is not well regarded for heat sinking.

The first 18650 zoomer I’ve gotten was one like shown at the link below. I mention it because of your color comments. With the pill (red section) screwed into the body it seems like a better design. It’s got a substantial feel, only slightly larger than an L2 and much larger than the AA Sipik clones.

Mine is driven to about 1.85A using IMR cells - comparing it to my dedicated P60 aspheric driven at ~2.35 with the same battery it isn’t that far behind on throw. The 603 die image is smaller and well focused in zoom setting, so that helps.

Not bad as it is, might be even better with 2.8A or better driver.

i know i looking for something that is very hard to find, a good throwing, small, xm-l zoomie.

The 14500 with an SK68 isn’t too bad if small package is a priority. You may have to buy a few or mod one to get one that pulls max current but typical will be ~5W (vs. 10+ for XML with high current driver). Most of the difference is just in the size of the die image, though.

Right now, my 14500s are at 3.95v and it is almost equal in brightness to my relatively fresh charged IMRs in the 501 - it’s just a much smaller spot and the run time may be somewhat less.

A 501 aspheric is very pocketable. It doesn’t zoom but it’s easy to reach for the L10 Nichia for most flood duty. Both fit nicely in the same front pocket as my wallet (which keeps them apart).

You could try this one from Wallbuys for $7.34 during their sale.
I have one on the way from their post-Christmas mini-sale ($7.98 then). I thought about ordering a few more, but I have so many gifty-type lights coming already…

I purchased that exact light from Wallbuys, got it the day before Christmas and it works very well, 5 modes with great heat management.
Buy a couple, they are nice lights for the small money.
Thanks,
Keith

I have one of these in black - the Ultrafire SK98 clone that is. I also have the Sipik SK98. Between the two, the clone had better (but still not great) heat management and three modes. I haven’t had any trouoble at all with the Ultrafire, and as others have stated, it has a great flood. No, it can’t throw like the smaller SK68 because it’s an XM-L. But it’s still pretty versatile.
