Customer says, "IT'S TOO BRIGHT!"

Recently everytime I look at my lights I get cranky because I feel like a hoarder. So a few weeks ago I decided to get rid of 80% of my lights. I set aside 20 or so of my favourites and organized the rest.

Last night one of my customers, a mechanic called me up and wanted to come by so I can fix one of the lights I sold him. The light in question was sold as a set, UF WF-502B XM-L2 T6-3C with an 3A 105C 1 mode, 1 panny 18650B battery and an Xtar MP1S charger.

He told me that it was too bright! (pause....) I laughed and thought about slamming the door in his face and sending out my GSD on him! I'll explain why.

Previously, he made a big stink about multiple modes and how he couldn't bother changing modes, bla, bla, bla. I explained that sometimes you need the lower modes for close up work but he didn't want to listen. At the time, I had to change out the KD V2 driver for an 1 mode Nangj on the spot.

I told him that next time he wants to upgrade the P60 drop-in, I'll charge $20 but for him, he gets a SPECIAL price of $50! Anyways to fix the problem, I desoldered two 7135 chips off the driver and replaced the glass lense with a frosted one. He was happy with it and off he went.

I just remember why I am not a salesman. In my book, the customer is never right and I like to bash them over the head with a bag of potatos when they start bitch'n & complain'n. I think I'll be in a better mood once those light are out of my house.

Update: this afternoon the following day

OK - Just talked to my buddy that owns the garage that this guy works at. I have come to the conclusion that he wanted it modified so he had something different from the other guys since I have equipped all the mechanics there with my torches.

I'm definitely going to ragg on him next time I see him. He told everyone that he should of got the three modes to begin with even though he called the rest of us idiots. LOL. What a guy eh?

I can’t disagree with you, i am happy to tell someone what i have learned from experience, but when they don’t listen, learn themselves then start complaining about it, that really annoys me, and no one ever concedes that you were right, all they do is complain about what you told them would happen and it did.
I now let people learn it for themselves unless there is some kind of danger to them not knowing what i know

I hate people.

People or customers?

LOL

I tell ppl that I'm not racist, prejudice, or sexist. I just don't like YOU, personally!

This thread is funny!
Thanks guys…

Did you tell the guy to wipe the sand from his ***ina when you sent him on his way?

Well, seeing as I don't like to sell stuff for the very reason you state, I can't say as I blame you, but.... as I have been a very irate customer many times, I also see the other side. I have embarrassed, enraged and put the fear of god into many sales people and quite a few managers. Usually anyone with me just backs away and pretends they don't know me, but that is usually what it takes to get the results "I want". So.... I would be a bad customer for you, LOL.

You're the type of person I like to bring with me if I need to take something back to the store, make a complaint, or get a deal on something. I'm often amazed at the results. Much respect! LOL

agreed

Well, there is your problem right there, the potatoes are potentially too soft! Unlike ROCKS or other hard objects, there is some post attack usage; fried, mashed, baked…whats your choice?

When you give stuff away, as I do, as part of my business, I tell people never to question the gift… you bring it back, you leave empty handed.

“Those who look a gift horse in the mouth…” finish this for me please!

The Home Depot Armormax 3D light works better for that…

So you had 100 lights? Geez, I don’t feel bad at all now!

I guess he just wanted a light for close up work and didnt want 3 modes.

I like some people

i hate IGNORANT people…

Even before I started gunsmithing, the plan was to do it for awhile (as an employee), then do something else for awhile and return to it (as proprietor).

I’m glad I went with that plan, because I learned that when I return to it, I will NOT interface with customers. I will build guns, someone else will sell them, and people will buy them if they like them the way they were built or if they can afford to pay DEARLY to talk with me and convince me to do something ‘custom’ (besides discretely plugging their bore) 8)

Hehe. Too many customers/harpies wanted a refund after going deaf from shooting their custom .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomers?

One from column 'A,' one from column 'B.'

I hear ya. I’m thinking of getting rid of about half or more of my lights, partly because I don’t use them am am just sick of seeing them!

And why not go to Walmart for a less bright light? No special mod projects needed. Anything in the $4 range should work, no?

People suck. Stupid people suck even more.

So much hate…. hatehatehatehatehate
