HAPPY ENDING - Received a dead HD2010 :(...

I just received a new HD2010, but it looks like it’s not working. I’ve tried a bunch of known-good 18650s with it with the adapter, but no light, and also a known-good 26650, and no light.

I’ve also tried shorting the negative to non-anodized part of the body, and no light.

I’m contacting the place where I bought this from (Tmart), but meanwhile, are they any ideas what I might look for?

Also, is this a common problem with the Tmart HD2010s?

This was kind of the topper on an already not-so-great day with flashlights :(…

Thanks,
Jim

Hi,

Also, BTW, do the HD2010s normally have an O-ring on the tailcap end of the tube? The one I got doesn’t have one… it’s basically bare.

Thanks,
Jim

Mine from lightmalls had oring on tailcap and head threads though i replaced them with thicker ones.

So far all of my doa’s have been assembly issues with the tail switch. Go through the switch. You might get lucky and fix it.

If it ends up being the driver, that is no big loss. I wouldn’t want the direct-drive or the under-powered driver anyway. Especially using a 26650.

Ohaya,

Had the exact same problem. The reflector shorts out on the PCB wires. Unscrew the lens retainer and remove reflector and try and see if it works. Adding electrical tape to the bottom of the reflector prevents it from shorting. My last tmart 2010 was an EAST-092B driver pulling only 1 amp. The light was terrible. The older versions were pulling 3.5-4.5 amps. Tmart agreed to take it back and either refund or exchange. Check which driver you have. It will be visible by unscrewing battery tube. East-092B is hard to read but is visible. EAST-092 is easy to see.

Hi ohaya,

As above, try powering the light after removing the reflector. Mine from Tmart worked after I done this as a suggestion.

It took me 3 to get a working one. I no longer recommend them just because of this bad variance in quality control.

Sorry to hear about this Jim. I only got a chance to fire mine up once or twice before it died. A year later and I still haven't modded/fixed it. And this was a light I was so excited to get. Another light where they were so close but just couldn't nail it right! Then the latest driver issues have turned these into expensive mod hosts.

ColdFusion et al,

See? That’s why this place it’s great :)! Removing the reflector, then it worked. If I keep it, I’ll put some tape on it.

Thanks,
Jim

Tape or…cut a circle out of a larger piece of heat shrink tubing, then a donut hole in that for the emitter. Mine works great that way with no adhesive to gummy things up. My best thrower after a few mods. Love it!

Shed some light on a coyote at something over 250 yds just last night, let him know he was being watched! lol

Hi,

Unngg :(! Yes, it looks like an East-092B driver. Just the “Ea” part is plated, the rest isn’t, but I can see a “B” at the end. I checked the tailcap current, and it’s ~1.5 amps, but it’s jumping around. Is there PWM on high mode on this light? That’s what it looks like :(…

I emailed them via their website, because no one was on their chat. What’s the best way to contact them about this?

Also, do you think I should return it, and, also is there a better HD2010 somewhere else?

Darn!! Worst case scenario :(!!

Jim

Hi,

Thanks. Is the lightmalls one better than the Tmart HD2010, current-wise?

I saw your other thread about HD2010 and Tmart. What did you end up doing? Did you just return it to Tmart?

P.S. FYI, that 1.5 amps was using some new efest IMR 18650 batteries, too :(…

I got a dead HD 2010 also. I unscrewed the bezel about 1/2 turn and she lit right up. The “high” mode is quite a bit lower lumen-wise than the flash modes. Does that mean I got a bum driver?

I am finding this light to be one of the better bike lights I have used lately. I hope there is a quick fix for the issues at hand.

I emailed them through their website and after 2-3 days they responded saying to change batteries, clean, tighten etc. I re-emailed them and re-mentioned specifics with the driver being incorrect. Then within 24 hours they sent an RMA number with free shipping back to NJ. At first I was pretty frustrated but it looks like they are making things right. They give you the option of resending another or getting money back. I’m quite confident that they are just going to resend another with the East-092B driver. Refund it is. It’s a shame as the original is awesome and my favorite light.

Glad you got yours working, sorry it’s not the correct driver. So far My friends was under 1 amp, mine was 1.06 amps and yours is at 1.5 amps. Looks like the drivers are garbage.

Send it back and start over? When all it takes is a QLite driver? Boom, 3A and throwing 450-500 yds. I’d say Yeeees the driver sucks! Time to make this bad boy sing! lol

I agree, throw a good high output driver in it. It always needed a driver swap even if you got a "good one" if you ever planned on running good 26650's or IMR's. And if you had received one with a good driver, running on that Efest IMR would gave likely blown out the LED from too much current.

Hi,

I got Tmart to say that they’d send me a return label, then I come back here and…. You guys are like driving me nuts… Do I keep this dead HD 2010, or send it back :(?

I think I found part of the reason for it not working relative to the reflector. I found a small round plastic ring, “rolling around” inside the reflector area. It has a square hole in the center. I’m guessing it’s suppose to be the manufacturer’s lame attempt to have an insulator disk.

My wife also found the missing O-ring…. on the floor, and it was broken.

So, now, I have:

- A dead HD 2010

- Bad/weak driver (if it did work)

- Some unidentified, but probably emitter insulator

  • Broken O-ring.

Not a good start for a relationship if you ask me :(!!

I have a couple of days, but I have to think about this. I thought I was buying a working light from Tmart, not a semi-complete DIY host with some missing pieces :(…

Sorry, it hasn’t been a great day. I was really looking forward to getting this HD2010 today :(…

Rant off (for the moment)… Maybe I should go work on my Tiablo now instead :)…

Good to hear you got it running.

Is it just me? I buy these budget lights expecting to replace the driver. You got to spend more than budget prices for light with a decent driver. Even then, I usually want a different driver. So to me, it is a bonus. Cheap light and custom driver.
