For sale is my direct drive triple XM-L shorty magcharger. It was a lot of fun to build but funds are needed for future projects. The build thread is here. The light will draw 5 amps for a couple seconds from 3 fresh eneloops in the included battery carrier and then settles into the 4 amp range for a short run time. The light draws eight or nine amps from an INR 26650 (not included).
A few disclaimers. The paint job has held up well to general use but there are three small blemishes in the paint. One in the switch well, one below the head/tube interface and one chip at the edge of the bezel. The joining seam from the cut down procedure is not perfect, most folks won't notice but there it is.
I am asking $75$60 $50 plus shipping. The first "I’ll take it" reply followed by a PM gets this light. Paypal address is kyfishguy@yahoo.com Questions are welcome.
interesting light. was the cradle modified to accommodate your new battery/voltage setup? just wondering cuz I have a normal magcharger and it’s begging for me to inject new life and technology into it somehow.
The charging function has been disabled as a safety feature. If the light ever fell into non-flashaholic hands with a lithium ion battery in it charging in the standard cradle could result in unpleasantness.
The short answer is no. This direct drive light needs at least 3.2 volts to function. Because it has been cut down to a single cell size only 3AA in a D sized carrier or a single lithium ion battery would provide the needed voltage in the space available.
