(dont want to clutter with mass photos so PM for further photos. They are already uploaded so will be quick to send)

WL E2 Evo- As normal, its under-spec (75mW model) but still a good laser for a starter or someone interested in a lower output 532nm or WANTS A SAFETY EQUIPPED LASER. Laser has safety pin in the tail that mets FDA approval. Does 43mW average with 14500/dummy and 33mW with standard 1.5V AA. Really has never been used minus testing. Bought as leftover stock since this was discontinued and replaced with the “core”. Bought with the intent of tearing it completely down and putting a 638nm in it but way to busy with work so it has only been tested :frowning:

Want $45 shipped

Last is a laser I REALLY dont want to sell but will if there is no interest in my other lasers. This is the FIRST “high” powered laser I ever bought so have a soft spot for it. Averages 115mW with 127mW peak. Runs off a single 18650 battery. Has a threaded head for effect caps if purchased. Has rarely been used since I got my 2W from Blord only a few days after this one and then my 400mW LaserBtb so this greenie has been neglected :frowning:

Want $60 shipped

Respond here or PM me if you are not a member on LPF. No need to create a LPF account unless you want to join us on the “dark side”

Any interest in this?

mmmm.

I enjoy my eyesight and the possibility of having good vision when I get older.

Ahhhh yes that is where members of BLF are misinformed. I myself value my vision greatly and there are plenty of ways to protect your eyes and enjoy lasers at the same time. If you are an idiot with it then yeah youll probably zap your vision.

Same thing goes with a XML thrower……you wouldnyt stare down the reflector and turn it on high. Thats just dumb, well you wouldn’t stare down a laser and turn it on would you? If anyone is interested I can throw in some safety glasses as well that protect against the 405-532nm wavelength

Afaik you don have to look into the the laser diode to get blinded/hurt. Reflections, even coming from walls etc are dangerous enough.
Just don´t use such lasers indoors.

Or just use it indoors while wearing protective glasses. If anyone needs safety advice just let me know but as a BLF special ill include safwty glasses free. LPF doesnt get this special but since you guys have taught me about the world of lumens ill include them

I just ordered my first laser from FT. Just a cheapy to mess with the cats. It sounds silly I suppose but if I was going to spend that much I would need it to literally light stuff on fire!

Specular reflections are extremely dangerous to your eyes, meaning those reflections off of reflective smooth surfaces like mirrors, anything glossy, silver, gold, glossy tv/monitor screens, or even windows (about ~10% is reflected back by your typical window).

Diffuse reflections nowhere near as dangerous... while I wouldn't recommend looking at the dot of a 445nm 2w+ laser for a prolonged amount of time, and you will experience the same effect as after after a flash goes off - after image - the likelihood of your vision being effected in any way, is extremely low.

With a laser you just need to be very careful where you point it, and if you leave it on, not holding it, you MUST make sure it is secured, and can't move.

For up close things like all those youtube burning videos you absolutely do need goggles... I would suggest these over the cheapie $5 red ones from china: http://www.amazon.com/Uvex-S0360X-Ultra-spec-SCT-Orange-Anti-Fog/dp/B003OBZ64M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1379086069&sr=8-2&keywords=uvex+sct+orange

Btw that FT laser, since you said its a cheapy, will prob be mush more powerful then they say. Was it a “5mW” laser by any chance?

There 5mW modules are normally 50-125mW

I was mainly referring to the price, less than $6. You are right it a 5mW and the reviews indict it to actually runs hotter than its rating. Here is the product link: https://www.fasttech.com/p/1198300.

Probably around 20-30mW. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but on average that's been me experience with the cheaper pens like that. I still have 10-15 of them lying around in gift boxes.

From what I read, that laser is not illegal in the US, but it's not considered a laser pointer, so I doubt it could be hand carried legally. It does need a key lock on it and I imagine, push come to shove, it would be considered as a commercial use only laser, so it would need to be registered.

I always wanted one, but with the regulations being somewhat gray and with so many police & officials reading between the lines lately, I felt it just would not be worth the hassle and the issues if anyone ever "perceived" it to be dangerous and reported me.

Great build though!

Simply not being an idiot isn’t enough imho. Need to learn a bit if your new.
I don’t really have to be concerned about specular reflection much with leds. With high power lasers I’m paranoid about any shiny or gloss surfaces when I want to enjoy the beam (glasses off). Granted if you live in the country there is not a lot of specular reflection outdoors (Careful of retroreflectors tho. Street signs, reflective lane markers). Be mindful of people as a few seem to think just shining a high power laser into clear skies must be illegal or something. S) Talking to them and bringing up the precautions you take can help.

Nice to see lovely 445 beamshots. Great host with the copper sink showing behind a custom focus adapter. And of course really sweet diode you got in it! Nothing beats finding one thats pushing the high end of efficiency. :crown:

Use to live at LPF but that was probably a couple years ago now.
Is Moh still keeping prices down? He had semi-shutdown last I was there due lack of time with work & paramedic(?) training. Got a ton of his silicone wire during his clearance.
… Now I want to rebuild my lasers.

It's not illegal to own one, or to use one (especially on private property). Nor is it illegal to posses one.

It is EXTREMELY illegal to shine one at or in the path of an aircraft. Goes without saying that you should never point one at any vehicle, animal, or person.

You'll need to jump through a lot of hoops and spend a ton of money if you want to do an actual laser show (regardless of whether your do it for free or for profit) but you really don't need to do anything if you happen to just build one.

Edit: Unfortunately for laserists, Moh's been promoted so he's now really not active. I don't think he's done anything new since he cleared inventory.

He'll be back eventually though, of that I'm certain. I still have a bunch of his focus adapters lying around somewhere.

Matts new job forced him to give up his laser shop :frowning: a driver now runs $30 at the cheapest for a good one. It sucks but this was actually made with a Moh host, driver, pill and heat sink  diode is from the best diode source……jordan (dtr)

As IE said not illegal to own nor carry. I carry my 2W 501b all the time. I just dont keep batteries in it since thats just stupid. Click this on in your pocket and you will know the true meaning to pants on fire

Edit: im down to 3 or 4 focus adapters. Those things are sweet (its the adapter on this laser)

I don't always carry a laser around, but when I do, I also carry the batteries in a separate plastic container.

The reason being is I was stopped by cops once for a pat down. I did have a laser on me.

Guess what the idiot did? He clicked it on, went Oh Wow, and with zero regard for himself or anyone else, starts shining it around... just lucky it was really late and no one was around.

Conversely, get a laser that has a tailcap key... Matt was actually thinking of organizing a kind of GB or purchase for tailcaps that have a key for c6 lasers.

Tjays wpuld be cool but with his new job dpibt it will happen :frowning:

And this from Laser Pointer Forums in regard to laws by country:

United States

Laser pointers are defined as Class II or Class IIIa devices, with output beam power less than 5 milliwatts (<5 mW). According to U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, more powerful lasers may not be sold or promoted as laser pointers. Also, any laser with class higher than IIIa (more than 5 milliwatts) requires a key-switch interlock and other safety features.

LOCAL LAWS MAY VARY. PLEASE CHECK YOUR STATE’S LAWS.

All laser products offered in commerce in the US must be registered with the FDA, regardless of output power.

So at the very minimum, a laser of the power level you’re showing here MUST have a keyed switch with removable key. It would seem to me to be something akin to a switchblade knife, you can carry it if you want to, but get caught with it and it changes your perspectives on the why’s and wherefore’s. Not every cop will hassle you over it. And yes, some may be the fool and actually cause damage with it, at which point you yourself would be the responsible party and all he would break loose.

I recently ordered a 200mW green laser module. New company, their own web page said it wouldn’t ship due to FDA regulation. I ordered it to see what they’d say. I questioned a service rep and was told “I don’t know who told you that but they were wrong. Yes, it will ship. ” And eventually, it did indeed ship. So now I’ve been digging into the laws and regulations and find that it’s going to be a hassle to have it. My neighbor is a cop. He’s a redneck as well. He’s one that would wave it around…in the air. He’s got military lasers that have humongous range. But he also says it’d be one of those deals that you couldn’t use just anywhere, and if one person wanted to trip out on it, then the law would have to act on that. Kinda like that switchblade (an illegal weapon to even own in Texas), or any other knife for that matter. Carry it, use it with caution, and hope no one ever wigs out when they see it.

I wanted it to point out stars. Live out in the country. And now, with all I’m learning, will probably never or almost never put it to use. And it’s much much less powerful than the one shown here!!!

In Texas rules and regs it states Only Class IIIb or IV lasers need to be registered. These registrations seem to be pointed at service devices for health treatment, can’t locate anything on a portable powerful laser that does nothing more than point and/or pop balloons/light things on fire. It was kind of like what my brother asked, “Why? What’s it for?”

Lasers for commercial sale require the FDA safety features.
Build your own and it doesn’t apply. Likely doesn’t apply for single private sales either. Similar to the private gun sales and background checks. Even ‘private’ sales at gun shows.

On laserpointerforums they have tons of information, but it gets contradictory. For example, I quoted from them the laws in the United States. They have a list of various countries and the laws and everything they show states IIIb or greater must be locked and/or registered/licensed. Then below it there’s an ad:

For sale at *.com (Use coupon LPF10 for LPF members):
1300mW Blue 445nm laser: $149
1800mW Blue 445nm laser: $229
100mW Green 532nm Laser: $89
900mW Red-Orange 635nm Laser: $249

If everything over 5mW is so strictly governed, why all these powerful lasers for sale? Mine, the 200mW and the other 5mW ones I bought, did not come with any kind of sticker like you see on all the laser items. Nada. So what’s a noob to do?
