More Fake Convoys from Gearbest.

I just received a convoy c8 from Gearbest and it looks like its fake. Now as of yet I am yet to hold a good c8 as the first one from Dinodirect looked like it was made from papier mache, it was real bad.

Anyway Gearbest had an offer for the new convoy c8 4c, so I picked one up.

What I got looks nothing like the pictures. First of all it looks like an Ultrafire c8, shiny crap ano not the matt black in the pictures, you can see the machine marks underneath.

It was supposed to be a 4c but is very cool white, it does say 4c on the box so they were half way there.

The driver is a 105c, now I don’t know if this is the driver they advertise but it is only managing 2.4a at the tail. Now part of the reason for this is probably down to the extremely crap spring on the driver. I have never seen anything like it, looks like it came out of a pen.

So has anyone else received one of these fine specimens?

Could you post a few pictures?

The thin, crap driver spring was also found on the fake red convoy S2+.

I’ve not bought any C8’s from Gearbest before. I’ve got one of the first designs with pill for the LED. It wuld help if you posted photos of the torch. Is it the new model pill less design?

My first flashlight had the 8×7135 driver and would only put out 2.45A, turns out the board had been forced in so strongly it cracked one of the traces meaning one chip was not allowing current through it. You could also have a defective chip, or a missing one, or your multimeter (wires) or battery may not be operating at peak efficiency

The Journal of Alternative Facts TM

"It is critical that there is a credible academic source for the growing and important discipline of alternative facts. This field of study will just keep winning, and we knew that all the best people would want to be on board. There is a real risk in the world today that people might be getting their information about science from actual scientists"

I will try and post some pics late but I don’t have a photo bucket account and I think I need one.

Two things I forgot to mention. First this has a screw in pill. And second the wall of the battery tube has been machined in such a way that it is noticeably thinner on one side. Very poor quality.

Let me know if there is an easier way to post pictures guys.

Hi bort,

The meter is good no worries there. I think it’s the crap spring.

How much did you save by not buying directly from Simon’s Convoy store from Aliexpress?

That is exactly what I was about to ask too.

Beside that Gearbest do accept Paypal (not that Alipay isn’t safe), I don’t know what kind of benefit one can get by not buying from Simon directly.

This is Simon’s store on Aliexpress, you can compare the prices with Gearbest for yourself.

I would not have bought a c8 from simon as I am not particularly keen on the c8. It was on offer that’s all so I picked it up.

It’s not the point anyway, the point is it came from Gearbest and is not what it should be.

This was taken from the fake s2 thread, it is the exact same driver and spring I have on mine.

"Convoy" C8

My sample has the weak spring , cool tint , and worst of all , the clicky is recessed too far . I can't use my thumb to actuate it .

What I do

To post pics without an a photobucket account.

  1. Save pics to your computer
  2. Change input forum to rich-text (at bottom of post window)
  3. Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to put it where you want
  4. Remember to resize it to fit the screen by dragging the corners.

Ok then, take some pictures as evidence and do what you need to do (with Gearbest/Paypal). Smile

But you knew that was likely, didn’t you?

If the idea is to keep buying stuff that’s probably bad for the fun of complaining about it, well, good for you, somebody ought to be patrolling to control China and it sure ain’t me ….

Can you do anything about their national boundaries problem? Seems Chinese kilometers have the same issue as Chinese lumens, they’re bigger than anybody else’s ….

Same here.

Open imgur.com in browser
Open the folder that has your pictures
Click and Drag picture onto browser

Or copy & paste, or click upload on imgur etc

Built in editing if you want to crop or whatever else

You can upload off your smart phone as well.

Thank you to all regarding how to post pics. Most appreciated.

I have opened a ticket and will polish the PayPal hammer.

One other thing I noticed the convoy logo is upside down. I know people will say ‘duh turn the torch around’. But I have noticed all convoys are printed lens facing left, this is not. And the logo is a little too big for the space provided.

Here’s an example of how to check whether this week’s batch of any particular kind of light from any big seller might be fake.

Just as an example: http://budgetlightforum.com/search?q_as=gearbest%20fake%20convoy

Put in the seller’s name, the claimed product’s name, and words like fake, counterfeit, crap, junk ….

If anyone has reported it, it’ll appear in the search results.

Then — important — sort by date to see newest at the top.

Remember China stuff isn’t a single producer with a single production line and a knowledgeable group of employees.
We get bunches and batches — likely overruns and leftovers or —- my guess — stuff including quality control rejects from big business or military batches.

You never know what you’ll get.
They never know what they’re buying from their suppliers, they don’t ask.
They may never even handle the stuff they’re advertising for sale.
The support person you talk to isn’t told anything about any of this.

Life is like that, these days.

There is one thing worth noting, as far as I am aware Gearbest is an authorised seller for Convoy. So maybe Simon should simply stop supplying them. Then if we see a convoy on GEARBEST it will be a fake. He is only damaging his reputation as all the people who are not in the know will be thinking convoy are just a crap light like ultrafire.
