Giveaway! Aluminum Channel for flex/hard LED Strip Light w/ White Cover by LEDdrop

Greetings, from Dropality LLC to BLF!

LEDdrop is a new brand in the LED lighting industry. The brand is owned by our small, US-based e-commerce business. Our core products as of late are aluminum channels for LED flex/hard strip lights. To celebrate our product launch on Amazon, we’ve decided to run a giveaway! The prize is the U-12 model of our aluminum channel line.

Enter the giveaway competition here!

Prize/Product Description:

  • 1m/3.3ft long LEDdrop Aluminum Channel, U-Shaped Extrusion (Model U-12)
  • Accepts LED strips up to 12.5mm wide (such as 3528, 5050 & 5630 LED strips)
  • Provides a modern aesthetic and a professional finish to a wide range of lighting applications (under cabinet kitchen lighting, entertainment center lighting, patio lighting, etc.)
  • Includes 2 end caps & 4 mounting clips (2x steel and 2x clear)
  • Milky/oyster-white cover; diffuses LED flex/hard strip lights, creating an emanational neon effect

Please note that no payment of any kind is required for this giveaway, and that only U.S. residents are eligible.

Do you have a photo with the LED strip and the cover? I need to visualize it.

Right now it just looks like a section of rain gutter…

Hey LEDdrop, you know, that is actually a great idea. I have over/under led cabinet lighting in my kitchen. I did not use strip lighting, but am getting ready to install strips in my bathroom, so I can really see how adding this diffuser would bring a much more professional look.

So, for different sizes and fittings, what do you recommend? Just cutting the channel and cover with a hack saw?

As far as your giveaway, thanks, but I’m not on any type of social media (unless BLF somehow counts), so I won’t be re-tweetering your twite, or however that works.

We do indeed:

LEDdrop Aluminum Channel, U-Shaped, Model U-12

This giveaway is for the LEDdrop U-12 model, suitable for surface mounting or embedding. Depending on where you install these in your bathroom, you can easily change the degree of softness by changing the position in which the channel facing, by using a different type of channel, etc. Of course there are other factors. Forgive me if you know most of this, but I’d like to gloss over some things to consider for those new to the home interior LED strip lighting scene.

Having a wider aluminum channel allows you to double up certain LED strip lights, thereby allowing you to utilize less channels to house the same amount of LED (e.g., installing 2x 1-meter long 5050 LED strips [10mm wide] side-by-side in the U-20 in contrast to installing a 1m long 5050 LED strip per 1-meter channel).

LEDdrop U-20 Aluminum Channel:

There are also square and round shaped cover LED channel/profiles of which we are planning to launch in September. Another model we are launching is the UF-12 - suitable for embedding and surface mounting and bearing a 12mm inside width - which has a flange/lip for flush embedding:

So, to answer your question as to different sizes and fittings - or rather to make your question more opened than closed - it’s completely up to you. Personally, I prefer the U-12, or the standard u-shape channel as it can suite a wide range of lighting projects. But if you plan to do under-cabinet or anything where the channel itself will be hidden, then it honestly does not matter so long as the channel can be surface mounted (which most of them are). If you’re attempting to point the light in a specific direction, I’d consider using an angled profile with a square or round shaped cover. In the next week or so, along with the U-12, UF-12 and the U-20, we’ll be launching the LEDdrop VS-10 model (angled channel with square cover), which has an inside width of 10mm:

As for cutting, it can be done — but I’m not the person to ask unfortunately, as I haven’t attempted it. I’m sure Google would be more helpful

Lastly, so long as BLF members are interested, we’ll definitely offer BLF-exclusive promos/giveaways. We can only wait to see if there are more people like you

Isn’t this just spam?

What are your shipping rates abroad? Im not entering the giveaway since there are a bit too many barriers to entry.

The vast majority of our inventory is set to go straight to Amazon, so hopefully Amazon is both an available and feasible option for you. If not, just private message me, and I can send you a custom coupon to mitigate the shipping through Amazon or through our website.

Are there any other ways to enter the free giveaway?

Do you also sell the strip LED’s?

I too will pass on the giveaway, as I’m not that social, but I can mostly answer the question about cutting. I think you’d want to cut the cover with a fine toothed saw (such as a hacksaw). A chopsaw might splinter the cover. As for the aluminum channel, hacksaw, metal blade on a jigsaw, angle grinder with metal blade, or a chopsaw with a non-ferrous (aluminum rated) blade. (Regular carbide blades will work in a pinch, but have a hook angle and design that makes them more prone to grabbing.) And a word on safety: clamp your work well, cover your eyes/ears, cut slow to avoid grabbing, and apologize to your saw after loading it up with aluminum chips.

Also not into social — and I’m blessed with a local hardware store that stocks a vast variety of aluminum channel shapes and plastic sheets so I can do this stuff myself.

But curious:

have you measured the percent transmission through the plastic you use?

(here’s how: transmission light through plastic measure - Google Search )

I love the double-wide…

I hate when someone hides their links :expressionless:

Update (8/18/2015):

We’ve eliminated mandatory social media aspects of the original giveaway.

Also, we’d like to do another giveaway (separate from the giveaway in the OP) to a respected, active and seasoned Budget Light Forum member.

Eligible participants

  • Have at least a 3-Star Title
  • Live in the United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii)

To enter: simply respond to this thread or send us a private message!

Prize:

  • 1 participant will be chosen as the winner
  • This participant will receive one (1) U-12 or U-20 LEDdrop Aluminum Channel
  • Though not required, we’d love to see photos of your finished LEDdrop channel setup!

Absolutely no purchase to enter.

I am very interested in this, mostly the as-10 right angle. The light transmittance is also very important also if the diffuser is going to add any unwanted tints or off colours to the light.

I’m going to be installing some of this tomorrow for under cabinet lighting.

I’m in here. Nice to see some follow-up on the post. Thanks.

I am interested in the free giveaway. TY

Update (8/21/15):
